Surely we're not going to pretend Twitter trolls are the metric. You can find people on Twitter who say literally anything.

Now maybe the videos said something different, but they definitely had the words above in said thumbnails

They felt bad user reviews hurt Captain Marvel. They deleted all reviews made before the film dropped, and that wasn't enough. The MCU was a juggernaut at the time
Like I don’t really even care because it’s one of the weaker MCU films especially during that phase which was peak marvel, but it’s silly to think that these weren’t a bunch of fake reviews. And people can still post them, they just don’t go in the verified audience score.

We’re getting into the nerd level minutiae of picking apart a very good movie. Weird reflection of the times. The dude turned a movie about Oppenheimer into a monster. I enjoyed it and anyone sitting on the fence needs to watch it. It was excellent.

Yes Rotten Tomatoes is screwed. The older movie ratings are accurate but if anything woke comes out it's in the 90's. Amazing how they sold out.

Because it's an extremely obvious attempt at review bombing. You can stick your head in the sand and act like it's not a thing but it's extremely obvious it is.
On the flip side we also have hardcore fans trying inflate movie scores but that doesn't seem to be happening as much

Like does it really matter? No. But from RT’s standpoint, this was such a blatant example and it’s obvious in the numbers, that they obviously had both the evidence and the incentive (like people do typically want to know whether a film is worth a viewing) to put a verification process in place while still allowing for unverified reviews if someone really wants to see them.

Fascinating that the traditional or pre-2019 method is less than 1000 people whereas the new method from ticket site data has around 7500.
The other part is not sure if the reviews through the ticket sites even require you to have used the ticket to get the survey.
Regardless you can see how a Studio could bias these numbers in their favor.

I saw it and loved it and went back. Saw it again. Loved it again. It’s just a great movie.

The expectations were high based on MCU overselling the importance of the character.
If more people who disliked a movie rate it poorly, irrespective of numbers, that isn't review bombing. Verification was just a way to try an control public perception, and most importantly to force people to use Fandango (the owner of Rotten Tomatoes) to buy tickets
