Simple Question
Name a better single season of TV. I love the Sopranos , but don’t think any single season beats season 1 of TD. Overall, the Sopranos is better.

Wire Season 2 ages like a fine wine. From "WTF is this shite" to "woah, WTF is THIS shite"

yeah i mean there are lots of other candidates for better seasons than TD1 but that's the GOAT so it's an easy reference

The mini-series season return of BSG is damn near perfection.

You are always in the True Detective S1 threads with your tired arguments
We, me included, were obsessed with the first 7 episodes, and all the cult and how everything was going to come together with all the referencing to background stuff etc. We were posting pictures of background charecters, still pictures of the wind, you name it. Slowflo kept telling us its all going to fizzle and we said he was a limp dicked phag
Then, when nothing tied together and it did fizzle, everyone changed their tune to "its a character piece"

the S1 threads for TD were amazing and just as entertaining as the show
you had all the reddit Lovecraft theories and then you had SFP shitting all over them
yes, the payoff was not what the vast majority of people wanted or expected, despite what they tried to talk themselves into at the end, but it was still superb television
I miss the super long episode threads for TV shows and I' not sure we will ever have that again
kinda sad

I thinknit Was much better the second time I watched It.
1. I didnt Downs a week between episodes going down insane rabbit holes and getting my hopes up (I read The King in Yellow)
2. I caught The ending a little better. I had Watched it with a group and missed some of the little nuances.
I think The only thing it was missing was some king of explanation of the yellow king cult mythos, but I also Think that’s the point we’re not supposed to really understand these people.

Season 4 of dexter and season 4 of breaking bad are up there for goat status imo.
Lost seasons 1 and 2 are also elite

i'm not saying i wasn't invested, too, just for the record. i bought the yellow king on Amazon.

that whole post-season battle did give us a historic TD-centric meme, though

no no let me be clear. i was all in on that shite, too
i just said they didn't have enough time to wrap it up after like episode 5 or so. i think the episode they wasted with the shootout everyone loved. there were WAY too many threads to weave into a coherent finale in the time constraints
it was still amazing television but it's like Carson said, A+ level 4-5 episodes then...a much lower rated final section. the thing is, with shows that build up a mythos that sucks you in, the ending becomes the 2nd most important part (after the intro that sucks you in). you don't get to punt and claim all the glory

I didn’t participate in those threads, luckily, because I didn’t watch it weekly. I waited until it was over and bought the dvd and binged it. However, I definitely read them/it afterwards and you were on point.

The bad guys were the nature of man and the Creator that damned him to this miserable existence. I mean, from the very beginning, it’s not preaching a very positive message. All of it—life—is meaningless. Nothing matters. Time is a flat circle, so everything that is happening, has happened, or will happen has already happened, and nothing we do can change it. We’re in a loop of futile meaninglessness. Of course the Spaghetti Lawnmower guy they caught was low on the totem poll and didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. That was part of the point—nothing did. Just what show were y’all watching exactly, and what philosophy did you think it espoused?

Didnt like the 2nd viewing any more. He's unlikeable and not believable.

I’ll go with wire season 4 as the goat.
SFP was right. Go back to the season long thread. Everyone was trying to solve the mystery and focused on all the little clues that were dropped. Then, none of that mattered. It became a character study.
