Seriously, Chamber of Secrets is just the worst.

turning the Diary into a horcrux really salvages that one IMO. It also founds the whole thing more completely into a 7 book story instead of 3 serials followed by a 4 book arc to end with.

As far as the books go, Order of the Phoenix has the best story guts but is the worst constructed. It really is bloated IMO.

Order the book was annoying thanks to Harry being a giant douche most of the book.

THE DEFINITIVE RANKING....

...by a non-reader who has only seen most of the movies once four years ago:

1 order of the Phoenix
2 prisoner of azkaban
3 deathly hallows 2
4 deathly hallows 1 (I could tell that the DH movies were gutted of material even as a non-reader... But I enjoyed them)
5 sorcerers stone
6 chamber of secrets
7 goblet of fire... Got distracted when Edward showed up and his acting did nothing to get my mind off of that.
8. Half blood prince... I Remember nothing from this so that's good enough for it to be at the bottom.

I'm glad to see order of the Phoenix decently high on these lists. I remember liking that one the best. I'll rewatch it tonight and see if that still holds.

Order is the longest book and the shortest movie.

Prisoner and Goblet are the only ones I still care to watch.

Probably the case with all movie adaptations, I think this is the only way you can truly enjoy the movies. I won't go down the entire list, but them completely leaving out Sirius' mirror and turning Harry into a scared bitch at the end of Half Blood Prince were unforgivable.

I really don't think any of them were bad films. I thoroughly enjoyed each one of them, and I read all of the books. I think the worst adaptation by far was HBP, but I thought they were all pretty great.

It's worse than that. Harry and Voldemort have a completely pointless battle throughout Hogwarts, and start flying around for no reason, and then Voldemort dies with no one to witness and no one really caring. I just sit know who thought this was a good idea. It should have been in the middle of the Great Hall and been a combination of the end of a murder mystery and the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly where it starts off silent and then builds to a fever pitch, with Voldemort going down in a single shot instead of the filler bullshite.

Voldemort(hater of all things muggle) gets into a muggle fistfight with Harry. Not that the other movies were good, but this coupled with Harry not being restrained during Dumbledore's death absolutely ruined the entire series.

What was so awful was that, ok, he get's killed away from everyone. Fine. But Harry walks back into the school and everyone is just hanging out like he just got back from the gym.

"What's up?"

"Not much. Did a few miles, went to get some milk, killed Voldemort."

"Gotcha, you up for some cards?"

Anti-climatic ruled this series towards the end. The snooze fest as the Death Eaters escaped Hogwarts after Dumbledore was killed. Just prancing around the school as if everyone was in a coma. WHERE WAS THE FIGHT WITH THE ORDER???

As someone who watched all the movies before reading the books (I know, what was I thinking)

Good Movies
1.Goblet of Fire
2.Deathly hallow 2
3.Prisoner of Azkaban
4.Order of the Phoenix (before reading the book I thought this ending was epic AF)
5. Chambers of secrets
Bad Movies
6. Deathly hallows 1
7. Half blood Prince (after I read the book I didn't understand how they f'ed this up so bad)
8. Sorcerers Stone (the reason why didn't read the books, thought they would be kiddy and bad)

My book list is much different and I now appreciate the books much more so than the movies.

Their reasoning was to not ruin the hype for the battle in the final movie. Makes 0 sense.

That's not what pissed me off when the Death Eaters, it's the scene where Harry confronts Snape at the end: LINK

Now compare that to the book:

quote:

"Incarc-"Harry roared, but Snape deflected the spell with an almost lazy flick of his arm.

"Fight back!" Harry screamed at him. "Fight back, you cowardly-----"

"Coward, did you call me, Potter?" shouted Snape. "Your father would never attack me unless it was four on one, what would you call him, I wonder?"

"Stupe-"

"Blocked again and again and again until you learn to keep your mouth shut and your mind closed, Potter!" sneered Snape, deflecting the curse once more. "Now come!" he shouted at the huge Death Eater behind Harry. "It is time to be gone, before the Ministry turns up -"

"Impedi -"

But before he could finish this jinx, excruciating pain hit Harry; he keeled over in the grass. Someone was screaming, he would surely die of this agony, Snape was going to torture him to death or madness -

"No!" roared Snape's voice and the pain stopped as suddenly as it had started; Harry lay curled on the dark grass, clutching his wand and panting; somewhere overhead Snape was shouting, "Have you forgotten our orders? Potter belongs to the Dark Lord - we are to leave him! Go! Go!"

And Harry felt the ground shudder under his face as the brother and sister and the enormous Death Eater obeyed, running toward the gates. Harry uttered an inarticulate yell of rage: In that instant, he cared not whether he lived or died. Pushing himself to his feet again, he staggered blindly toward Snape, the man he now hated as much as he hated Voldemort himself -

"Sectum - "

Snape flicked his wand and the curse was repelled yet again; but Harry was mere feet away now and he could see Snape's face clearly at last: He was no longer sneering or jeering; the blazing flames showed a face full of rage. Mustering all his powers of concentration, Harry thought, Levi -

"No, Potter!" screamed Snape. There was a loud BANG and Harry was soaring backward, hitting the ground hard again, this time his wand flew out of his hand. He could hear Hagrid yelling and Fang howling as Snape closed in and looked down on him where he lay, wandless and defenseless as Dumbledore had been. Snape's pale face, illuminated by the flaming cabin, was suffused with hatred just as it had been before he had cursed Dumbledore.

"You dare use my own spells against me, Potter? It was I who invented them - I, the Half-Blood Prince! And you'd turn my inventions on me, like your filthy father, would you? I don't think so . . . no"

Harry had dived for his wand; Snape shot a hex at it and it flew feet away into the darkness and out of sight.

"Kill me then," panted Harry, who felt no fear at all, but only rage and contempt. "Kill me like you killed him, you coward -"

"DON'T -" screamed Snape, and his face was suddenly demented, inhuman, as though he was in as much pain as the yelping, howling dog stuck in the burning house behind them - "CALL ME COWARD!"

How horribly was that scene adapted? Snape in the film didn't give a frick what Harry was saying to him, Harry has no reason to call Snape a coward since he doesn't know he's the one who turned in the prophesy, and it's really meaningless in the film that Snape is the Half Blood Prince. That's my favorite scene in the novels, but they frick it up royally in the film. That, on top of all the Ron and Hermione bullshite and lack of Voldemort, I finally said "frick it" and almost left the theater.

So terrible, like you said, one of the best scenes from the book and it falls completely flat in movie.

As much as i hate that movie though, it does have one of my favorite scenes from the movies in it

Knew exactly what was coming. That should have been in the books. It was indeed a beautiful scene.

Haven't read one of the books in like 7 years and I read the last one wayyy too fast, may be time to start again

I still can't get over how much they fricked up the ending of DH2.

I liked how they kept the "Not my children, you bitch!" scene when Mrs. Weasley faced off against Bellatrix.

Besides that, I hate it so much.
