There's something about the way that the new DA speaks that I can't get over. He barely moves his lips and he speaks like he's high as hell.

Watched Ep 3 tonight. Yes the new DA is a mealy mouth fruitcake.
Apple shows are well done and they don’t always shove wokeness down your throat per se. But it shows through in the casting:
Rusty is in an interracial marriage
Judge- black woman
DA- gay black man
Hotshot defense lawyer from Yale- black woman
Nothing wrong with any of it but easy to see through it. After a while it gets old- no such thing as stereotypical white male roles in Apple’s universe.

You just accept it now. The powerful black sheriff or detective is just part of it. I guess.
I love the show so far

Anybody still watching? Watched EP 4 last night. Good episode.
My only complaint, and it just comes from a I've watched a lot of Dateline and true crime stuff over the years perspective, but, there is no way in the world a DA would have charged him based off the evidence they originally have. I realize it's TV and they need to create drama/or the way it was done in the book, but man it is an absolute joke to charge someone immediately just because the guy was banging her and there the night she died. They know that, but there was zero physical evidence (up to that point), and no murder weapon. They also don't even seem to be working in connection with the police, you know, the people that actually do the investigating.
In real life, you will see cases where detectives put so much information and evidence in front of a DA trying to get them to charge in a murder case and a DA constantly shoots them down, asking for more evidence. In particular a murder weapon. Yet a newly appointed DA charges someone on circumstantial evidence and they are sitting at a bar talking and saying "we need evidence." You think?
I'm really liking the show. Not trying to make it seem like I don't, but I just kind of rolled my eyes when they immediately charged him and then talk about how they need evidence. Like, you're doing this backwards idiot.

saw the Harrison ford movie a million years ago and don’t remember it at all, even who the killer is.
Enjoying this so far. The killer seems pretty obvious based on a couple dead giveaways.
Eta- Mizzou confirmed my suspicion. One scene was painfully obvious so im inclined to think a full reveal will occur well before the end, or, they'll deviate from the original killer.

I remember, but I don’t remember if it matched the book.

No spoilers because movies over 25 years old don't deserve spoilers.
Well okay I'll be kind.....
Spoiler Alert
Quit reading.....
Coming up.....
It's the wife of the accused Prosecutor, Harrison Ford.
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. She bludgeoned his mistress to death with a hammer.

Most lawyer shows are really detective shows, where there is a case, and the primary protagonist has to find all the evidence to win the case. Then he goes about doing it (usually with some sort of assistant or private eye) basically like a cop, turning it into a detective show.
Movies or shows that show what uncovering evidence in lawyer life is more like (A civil action, Dark Waters, Better Call Saul, etc.) struggle for this reason.

They sometimes will if it is a high profile murder case and they reach an investigative dead end.
Look at that recent case in Colorado where they charged the husband with murdering his wife and they don't even have a body, much less a crime scene, forensic evidence or any witnesses. They charged him based off the fact that she had an affair (motive) and cell phone data that indicated he was following her around the house before she disappeared. That's about as circumstantial as it gets.

Yeah I scratched my head about it too, I think what they're attempting is charges came quick because there is some vendetta against Jake's character. Could've been executed a bit better.
Also agree with the theory about who it is, it's kinda painfully obvious, I wonder if they deviate from the source material.

Well it's based in Chicago so it does all add up

Part of it is not just lack of evidence, it's just how fast they charged him. Unless my timeline is off, this was just days after the murder. I know cases are tried pretty often on circumstantial evidence but the fact they charged a guy and seemingly did no work with the police and looked at nobody else as a suspect, that's going to hurt them. Not sure how long they waited to charge the guy in Colorado but I doubt it was a week after and I would guess they did some investigating into other people.
Obviously the evidence that came back that his DNA was under her fingernails is big but you don't charge someone when you're discussing the case going "we need evidence." You think?

Holy shite...the guy they have playing the new AG is fricking AWFUL. He sounds like a monotone, gay, horribly uninterested idiot.
Also, it is comical how big a pair of assholes he and his lackey (the guy who took the main character's job) are.

Are they a couple? I mean the head guy obviously is but I can't tell if they are a couple or not. I can tell if they are flirting with the each other or if the DA is so gay it just comes off that way.

How he talks is irritating and he brings the show down with his terrible acting.
I also dont' understand why the foresnic doctor is such a dickhead. Never in my life have i seen a more unprofessional "professional". What the hell is his problem?
Show has been great thus far besides the terrible mumble monotone guy and his lackey, and the doctor.
I think the daughter did it

Seriously. I don't get it either. He is miserable in every scene.

DUDE! Its so distracting and annoying. Whoever casted him needs to be blackballed. My gf told me that he was in handmaid's tale. Did he talk/act like that in that show?

Peter Sarsgaard is one of the best in the business as far as I'm concerned, but him being paired with that muttering dufus is making me not even like his role. Sarsgaard should've been the head DA.
Bill Camp is also fantastic in everything he is in.
