Not enough talk about your gamgam's consciousness being in that gorgeous 25 year old blonde.
It's not the GamGam consciousness that weirds me out. It's the fact that it would also be the consciousness of my 6 year old son (or any other young kids like that). I still lean toward the "it's not rape" side of it, but that's definitely the part that weird me out more than anything else with that conversation. And I think Carol even made a direct comment toward that earlier in the show (not about sex, but just in general about the hive).
I wondered about that the other day...I assume the hive mind includes both the current knowledge of all living humans as well as their memories as well. And even if someone dies, the hive retains their knowledge I would assume. And with "every human in the world" on the table in this wealth of knowledge, the hive literally has the knowledge, memories, and experience of the totality of documented human history. That's a pretty terrifying foe to go up against if you're the 13 (which is why I assume most of them aren't battling them at all and are just content to sort of live whatever version of life they have).
quote:
Curious to see how Carol and Manousos communicate.
I was thinking about that as well after the last episode. I don't think the "spying" angle matters much at this point, because they have all had access to her videos and (assumedly) knows what is on them, and they are ending them out to the 13 anyway. I am curious is the internet is still a thing/still works. Because if so, there's no need to physically deliver physical copies of her videos to the 13 when they could be uploaded and send/viewed immediately. Seems like Carol could just ask them to make sure the internet still works instead of having physical mail delivered by drones and whatnot.
But Carol seemed to at least partially speak some broken Spanish, and I assume the Paraguay dude will do the same for English. I just hope they don't spend too much time figuring out communication, and we can get through that process quickly (and I do want to see the process; I just don't need a 50 minute episode showing us how they figured it out). And I also hope he gets there this next episode and we can actually see them working some shite out and progressing, rather than the finale cliffhanger be him finally showing up to her house.
I do like that as mistrusting as Carol is, this guy seems to be WAAAAAAY moreso than she is. Like she still slips up sometimes and allows herself to be among the hive (when they don't take their ball and leave). But Paraguay dude doesn't trust a single thing about them, to the point of eating canned dog food and dumping every single meal they've brought for him in two weeks. Should be a pretty interesting dynamic between them, and especially between him and the other 12 (if they ever meet).

I've convinced myself the alien virus is prepping the planet for invasion/colonization. At some point in the future the invaders can show up to an Earth that's all cleaned up and as unspoiled as possible, with the surviving intelligent species now nothing but super-intelligent pacifist servants unable to lie, disobey, or defend themselves.
At this point so far, I'm not sure how there could be any expectation other than that one. With the information we've been given so far, that seems like the most likely scenario. With VG though, I wouldn't be surprised if that rug is pulled out from under us at some point.

The version of the latest episode that I saw with the guy in Paraguay speaking Spanish to the woman in the street....my version didn't have any subtitles for the spoken in Spanish language. Did anyone else's version have subtitles to know exactly what they said?
That was me. Mine had no subtitles for the French part in the beginning, nor the Spanish part at the end. And I have Apple's subtitles turned on at all times when watching shows. I assume it was just something on my end, but I'm glad that at least it happened to someone else so I'm not crazy.
When the new episode comes out this week, I am gonna try to rewatch the first and last parts of last week's episode to see if the subtitle thing fixes itself.

Doesn't seem like the hive mind view sex like they did before the transition. It's like asking them to cut the grass or deliver groceries.
How they would feel about it if they go back to normal people is another matter.
I like this show but I miss the great dialogue of Breaking Bad and Saul. It's like Kill Bill, I love Tarantino's dialogue so when it's missing it's really missing.

Do you have the “show for different languages” turned on under video and Audio/automatic subtitles in settings?
It is separate from having subtitles turned on all time as an accessibility setting, and it is a setting to display subtitles automatically when a foreign language is used regardless of main setting for subtitles being on or off.
If subtitles always on the foreign language ones should show regardless of this setting, but Apple has had some weird bugs or lazy coding the past few years.

Same problem but I had my latina gf with me. She says hello son and that she is happy to see him. You must be hungry and probably confused. We can answer any questions you may have. Tell me, what can we do for you? Dont call me son, you are not my mother. My mother is a cabrona. Cabrona can mean awesome or bad arse woman

I would have Disneyworld, Universal studios and Kings Island all running just for me like Cartmanland.
No crowds. Then i would go on a world tour in my private Concorde I get pulled out of retirement.
I would be peppering my chaperone with questions.
"At what age/point does a fetus become part of the hive mind?"
"Who really killed JFK?"
"What race sent the coding which created the hive mind?"
"Who makes decisions for the hive mind? (or... who made the decision that you cannot kill, even to harvest fruits or vegetables)"
"What evidence has been hidden of aliens visiting earth?"
"How many secret societies were there and what were their goals?"
"Can anyone who has been melded into the hive mind be 'downloaded' into a specific individual and given autonomy?"
"Does anyone in the hive mind have a choice to leave or is that not even allowed to be considered?"

I was not even aware you could drive from South America to North America because of the Darien Gap.

insane in 2025 nobody has figured out how to put a road there to connect it all the way. what happened to landing men on the moon and shite?
i saw some brits did it some time ago w/ a land rover but i think it took like 2 years to fight their way through the darien gap

You can't. At least not in the typical fashion. It's been done, but it takes weeks. He's not getting across it in that car of his.

it would take 3-5 days to drive from Paraquay to Albuquerque (in this world of no borders, no traffic and no speed laws - at least according to AI).
What?
It is over 5,000 air miles from Paraguay to Albuquerque. Nevermind the Darian Gap. It is probably over 7,000 miles by roads, WHERE THERE ARE ROADS. It is 3,600 miles from Albuquerque to even get to the Darian Gap.

Is there not a ferry or something that goes around it? (I know that would be discontinued in this world, but just curious of what they do in real life) He could just grab a boat and then get a new car when he gets to Panama. Or just take the boat up to Baja and drive on from there.

i bet tons of people don't understand what the darien gap is or why its not navigable.

That's why I included the "at least according to AI" part. It seemed low to me at first blush, but I didn't have the time to actually plot it out when I was posting.

Watching last episode, when I see Playboi at the poker table I say to my wife, “Please let Mel Gibson be sitting at the table playing poker as Mel Gibson-hive.”
No Mel Gibson. “damn! This show is ripe for some bad arse cameos.”
Next scene: John fricking Cena! Hell yes!

I like it a lot. Some are sort of bored with it, which I can understand. But I know VG is a pretty slow burn sometimes, and I also have implicit trust in his showmaking. So I am all in for this one regardless of how slow I think it is sometimes.
It's also (I believe) completely original and not based on anything specific. So the story itself is just interesting from that angle.
