Sunshine (cult classic, falls short of being a masterpiece but still great)

The Signal (hidden gem)

Don’t watch the previews for either of these, just read the synopsis. ^

The Prestige (favorite of all time)

Thanks. Have you watched Pandorum? I fin it is a VERY underrated film. Was supposed to be a trilogy.
Film 1 = Pandorum
Film 2 = Prequal
Film 3 = Sequal

The Signal (hidden gem)

Loved the first 1/3. The rest was too disjointed for me.

Edit - Apparently, I am thinking of a different movie called The Signal, which was released in 2013.

Going off hidden gems-

Arcadia Of My Youth / My Youth In Arcadia (anime space pirate story. Name has been Romanized several different ways)

Cube

Event Horizon

Paycheck

Repo Man (1984)

Strange Days

Videodrome

Some of these are more hidden than others but generally not mainstream like Alien / Aliens, Robocop, Terminator, etc.

Yep Pandorum is solid. And Signal is a bit disjointed but it gets wild and I appreciate it for taking a shot at being far out there. That ending is nuts.

Top 3 aren't hidden gems:

Blade Runner
Aliens
Star Trek 2

But in the interest of lesser known...

Krull!

Cyclops, giant spiders, horses with flames shooting from their hooves, Slayers... total trippy weirdness you just don't get anymore.

This is the correct answer. Directed by David Bowie's son. I liked Ad Astra, Source Code, Edge of Tomorrow and Midnight Special too.

Dark City hasn't been mentioned yet and is in my top 3 sci-fi movies. It got reasonable attention when it came out but seems to have been largely forgotten.
