"Old" The 70s, frankly, was a new Golden Age for sitcoms. Don't get me wrong, I do dig the "classic" classics, I Love Lucy, Honeymooners, Gilligan, Jeannie, Bewitched, Brady Bunch, etc., but the 70s had all the Lear shows (All in the Family, Jeffersons, Good Times - I was never crazy about Maude), and also Sanford and Son, M*A*S*H, WKRP, SOAP, Barney Miller, Taxi, The Bob Newhart Show - it was just a helluva time to be a sitcom fan.
Obviously, the 80s had Cheers and Cosby as dominant forces, and a lot of great shows there, too, but I just don't think that decade had the quantity of great shows that the 70s did.
