There were an abundance of plot holes, but it’s Hollywood and I was entertained. Not the best movie ever made by any stretch, but an enjoyable trip to the theaters. Much better than the original as well.

Disney should approach Kosinski for Rogue Squadron.
Disney has the funds to film actors in real X-wings in space. Do it.

Seeing some bloggers on Twitter saying Disney should approach Kosinski for Rogue Squadron. That's a great idea.

Just get the guy that scripted the Scarif battle in Rogue One.

Loved it. My biggest complaint is unless I missed it they copped out not pissing someone off by not actually naming who the enemy was. I guess times are a little too politically correct now to say it was China or Russia or Iran or something.

Seeing as Iran is the only country left in the world with F-14 Tomcats still in service, I just assumed it was them.

I saw it earlier this afternoon.

Theater was mostly full.

I enjoyed it but I definitely got sidetracked when Maverick and Rooster were able to get into the enemy terminal and take off on a fricked up runway

the brightness on the projector seemed off though at the theater I went to. It sure seemed dimmer than usual but then again, I haven't been to the movies in so long.

They fit in most ways except not having fifth generation fighters and not having open water as shot in film.

Loved it - it was fun and what popcorn movies should be. The best 80s/90s reboot by far.

They may not have fifth gen fighters but last time I checked they were right next to the Persian Gulf. The whole "only country left with functional Tomcats" kind of makes it the default choice.

it was a taxiway he took off of, not a destroyed runway. I believe.

Key phrase was as shown. Gulf is very narrow for amount of traffic goes through it. If not land, you’d definitely see a cargo vessel at some range at pretty much every angle.

Thought it was great. Was an emotional watch for me. My dad passed away in November and I saw it in the same theater (well movie tavern but it was holiday square back then) in which we saw the OG together when I was 13. 36 years ago.

Just got in from seeing it. Might have been the best movie I’ve seen in the theater in a long time. Felt like an old school blockbuster. No agendas. Good plot. Great actions scenes that weren’t a total CGI fest. They balanced the nostalgia just right.

I’m not saying it’s Oscar-worthy but that was a great damn movie.

said if it wasn't top gun qnd Tom cruise and was just a regular jet movie it would be compared to Iron Eagle for some of plot and dialouge.
. Exactly. I kept thinking the Louis Gossett would appear

A good movie, but it won't be as respected as the first by pilots.

The first movie was also scrutinized by Navy Pilots but they still loved the film, pretty sure they still love the second film as well.

For example, I love cars and I know that Fast and the Furious is some Hollywood bullshite but it is still one of my favorite films because it is a lot of fun.

Going to add some more thoughts:

Definitely the best “sequel” since The Dark Knight. Really rare to see a movie live up to the hype.

Think about some of the long awaited sequels we’ve seen over the years and just how much of a letdown they were. Especially the ones where they give lip service to the original cast members or shite on the original in someway and try to force the newer generation on the audience. This easily could’ve joined those ranks but didn’t.

So great to walk into a theater, be thoroughly entertained while having some escapism, and walk out wanting more. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Tom Cruise is having his biggest opening weekend ever either. Hollywood really should take note.

Again…and I hate to harp on this…it’s so refreshing to see a movie with no agendas or or woke stuff wedged in. Just unapologetically tries to entertain you. They could’ve tried to play up the woman pilot angle with Phoenix but it was never mentioned and yet you still walked out of the theater thinking she was every bit as worthy as the other pilots.

I asked my girl after we got out of the movie, who she thought the Americans were fighting against…..

Her response: “the Uraniums”??
