It was a fun movie, but it's getting ripped by fighter pilots for the dialouge and plot already. Just not realistic at all.
A Hollywood film that isn’t completely realistic?!?! You could push me over with a feather right now.

They are comparing it to the realism of the first.
I mean, for example, in the first Maverick disobeyed some orders, which was unrealistic and would have gotten him grounded.
BUT in this one he steals two planes and gets his students in yelling matches with him.
It's just way too Hollywood to be comparable to the first.
A good movie, but it won't be as respected as the first by pilots.

frick the pilots. I appreciate everything they do for us, but I don’t need them ruining a fun movie for me and telling me that a Hollywood movie is fake. I knew that going into it.

Yes, I know but how in Zeus's butthole do you do that play football that way?

I saw the movie this weekend. Enjoyed it. Found it entertaining.

The entertaining thing about this movie are the call signs:
Warlock
Cyclone
Phoenix
Fanboy
Payback
Coyote
Bob
Hangman
Other than that, the movie is a snooze fest, boring

I dont like that look. Used about four times too many.
I could forgive it more if it wasn’t delivered to the same guy.
Apparently the guy is surgically attached to Maverick, from research projects, to helping at TOP GUN, and when he deploys, they find a place for him on the carrier deck crew.

Yes, Maverick's personal crew chief, lol. Surprised he wasn't there to prepare the F-14 for them.

Loved it. My biggest complaint is unless I missed it they copped out not pissing someone off by not actually naming who the enemy was. I guess times are a little too politically correct now to say it was China or Russia or Iran or something.

A "rogue state" who didn't have any business enriching Uranium.
Allegedly.

They didn’t name an enemy state in the original either. They were just enemy MiGs.

You can make the same complaint about Top Gun 1

It was a decent to good popcorn movie.
Not great by any means, but still good entertainment.

Fantastic start. CinemaScore is an A+. It should have some great legs.

Box Office: ‘Top Gun Maverick’ Breaks Memorial Day Weekend Records With $156 Million
Tom Cruise’s star-spangled blockbuster “Top Gun: Maverick” capped off Memorial Day weekend with a box office debut for the record books. The sequel, which sees Cruise return to the cockpit after 36 years, collected $156 million in its first four days of release.
Those ticket sales were enough to overtake Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” which launched with $153 million over the long weekend in 2007, as the biggest Memorial Day debut in history.

I would call it a great popcorn flick, but a good movie. You know what you are getting going in and it delivers well. There was someone on here who said it was up there with Godfather 2 which is just absurd IMO.
Very good action movie, but if you want to compare it to a sequel compare it to T2. Great action flick with a ton of unrealistic stuff going on

Rooster goes to bail out and cant, I saw it as the hand of Goose keeping him from the same fate. Very well written movie.

I thought they did horrible by Iceman
Iceman dies of the same (presumably) disease that the actor survives in real life
That said, no way in hell is a 60 year old man piloting a fighter jet in real life

Seeing some bloggers on Twitter saying Disney should approach Kosinski for Rogue Squadron. That's a great idea.
