Just got out. Really enjoyed it. Nice end to the series.

I saw it tonight. This is exactly what I thought too.
It gave a fitting end to the saga and the characters. You got to see fan favorites one last time and the biggest villain in the SW universe go down.
Yeah, they sort of manufactured Palpatine to have a framework to do basically a standalone movie that didn't flow from the previous one. Whatever. It worked fine, and I'm not one of the SW fans who obsesses over every detail.

Just watched it today.
I agree that this was better than the TLJ and JJ did the best he could to pull all of this shite together to finish the trilogy.
Almost everything In the movie was over the top....including the Force being ridiculously powerful...but it was fun to watch. At this point, no fun in pointing out silliness with the story...:we’re being asked just to roll with it.
I did like the conclusion to the Rey and Ren story. He redeemed himself which seemed to be coming throughout the series. There were a lot of emotions watching what we know is the last real Star Wars movie. It was choppy as hell and tried to be too big....but JJ did as good a job as possible given what had to work with.
There were some nice nods to the fans too.

The birth thing is in retcon limbo at the moment. A recent Lucasfilms statement said Palpatine is not the dad, but thats a retcon of a retcon so who knows where that will end up.
Well, Palpatine being the father has always been a fan theory. It was assumed canon, but never was officially canon. So, you aren’t really making a point here.

Are you trying to argue the night sisters are Sith?

Basically Vader killed Mace Windu and blew up Alderaan. Thats his only significant actions. He got tons of people killed on two failed death stars and killed a fake palpatine.
So, you really don’t know what all Vader did at all, do you?
Fake Palpatine? What drugs are you on?

You need to get over the gender thing. It isn't like she got in the octogon with Conor McGregor and beat his arse hand-to-hand.
i question the necessity to force women into Star Wars.
There was an over the top amount of women pilots & military leaders, even one dark commander.
Whatever, I just wish they'd have said something about women fighting because their fathers, brothers, etc were killed so they joined the rebellion or something.

There have always been women and women leaders in SW ... like, from the beginning. It’s almost as though some of you have never seen the movies or any of the cartoons.

It always amazes me that we still have people who are this ignorant in 2019.

I finally saw the movie on Thursday night. Mulled it over all yesterday.
I enjoyed a lot of the Easter eggs they threw in, but overall it came off like a incoherent mess backtracking a lot of what TLJ did, which given what a mess TLJ created isn’t really Abrams fault.
Any director that was tasked with creating a sequel to TLJ would’ve had a hard time.
The Palpatine thing bothers me in the sense that you have this hidden planet with apparently a bunch of Sith followers, that no one had a clue about? With a gazillion Mega Super Ultra Death Star Destroyers?
The first 45 minutes of the movie was a fricking mess trying to follow from planet to planet every 5 minutes.
Overall, I did enjoy the movie as an action movie packed with a bunch of Star Wars Easter eggs but I really hope they are done with the Skywalker saga.
I really would like to see movies on the Old Republic.

One or two out of 40, not 2 out of 3.
There was a scene where for a second I thought it was an all women military group, as everyone of the people running to Finn & Poe returning was a woman. like 12 in a row before they finally showed one telling a man to go do something.
quote:
When the draft ended in 1973, women represented just 2 percent of the enlisted forces and 8 percent of the officer corps. Today, those numbers are 16 percent and 18 percent respectively, a significant increase.
To be similar representation, you'd see 1 woman for every 6 humanoid man.
I don't have an issue with women being in the movie, but they do not explain why there's so many all of a sudden in the Star Wars universe.
If we were watching Star Trek, and all of a sudden half of the Starfleet crew was Klingon without any explanation as to why 1 or 2 turned into 100's, would you not question why? "Klingons have been around dude, get over it"

I think the story line in KOTAR would work as a standalone movie. (edited to omit plot twist)
quote:
The story of Knights of the Old Republic takes place almost 4,000 years before the formation of the Galactic Empire, where Darth Malak, a Dark Lord of the Sith, has unleashed a Sith armada against the Republic. The player character, as a Jedi, must venture to different planets in the galaxy to defeat Malak.
quote:
Depending on the character's alignment, upon ultimately reaching the Star Forge, they either defeat the Sith (the light-side path) or usurp control from Malak (the dark-side path). A light-aligned character is hailed as a saviour and hero; a dark-side character stands before the remaining Sith forces as the new Dark Lord of the Sith.

Just got home from seeing it. I avoided most trailers, and all reviews of it and went in with minimal expectations. I loved it. It’s not a perfect movie, but only Empire really is in the saga. But it was entertaining and a good close to the saga.

I thought their story and end was the best part of the movie. The movie was full of gimmicks and things that didn’t completely make sense but i thought overall it was enjoyable.

Saw this morning and really liked it. It’s the best of the new trilogy and 10 times better than last Jedi
Comedy was much better
Visually stunning
Less Rose
Less Finn
Can anyone please help me out and save me 30 minutes of reading through 100 pages tell me how the Emperor being in this one made sense? It works for me but how was it possible?

There is no explanation offered other than "the dark side is a pathway to abilities that many consider unnatural."
I think we will see a comic or novel explain that that purple mist that flew past Vader in ROTJ was the disembodied spirit of Palpatine, and the body he inhabited in TROS was a cloned one created by the Sith acolytes.

Anyone else bothered by force use inconsistency? Especially by Kilo Ren? I mean, he can freeze a blaster blast and people in some scenes, then in others he has to physically fight them? Just frikin' freeze them and cut them in half.

They had to have a big bad guy.
Snoke was dead, thanks Rian.
Hux was now a laughing stock comedic character, thanks Rian. Plus he wasn't a force used so he couldn't REALLY be the big bad guy.
Phasma was dead, and no force either.
Kylo Ren was inevitable going to redeem himself, so he wouldn't make much sense as the ultimate bad guy.
So the choices were to bring back Palpatine, or go with someone new for the last Star Wars episode. They could have done it better than to have some crazy planet full of Star Destroyers and Sith ghosts off the map with navigation crystals to get there, but whatever, I'm getting nitpicky.

Less Finn
There was plenty of Finn, but Finn interacting with Poe and Rey and Chewy and the droids made for entertaining screen time as opposed to him freeing horses with Rose.

Saw it yesterday. There were some things I questioned about it that didn't seem to make much sense, but all in all it was entertaining and brought the trilogy to a solid enough close.
I wasn't sure how I would like it. But all in all, I did. I'm not overly crazy about this trilogy, but after rewatching TFA and TLJ in the last week, and now seeing ROS, I appreciate this trilogy more than I did before.
Some random thoughts I had (without having read the thread to see if they were discussed, which I am sure most were):
This movie "felt like Star Wars" to me, and that's a good thing.
Minimum Rose was great. Also got some Chaaalie from Lost too.
I did feel like the kiss between Rey and Ben was WAY forced.
Why the hell would BB-8 end up with Rey on Tatooine? That is Poe's droid. Would make a lot more sense for her to end up with 3PO or R2.
I found myself liking Finn this go round. He was a lot less annoying and I actually enjoyed Boyega.
It's a little annoying that there are no "consequences" in these films. Even death isn't really and truly death. People die and pass on to live within the Force. Hell, even Palpatine wasn't really dead.
I liked the angle of Rey being a Palpatine, but didn't like the Emperor angle itself. It was just weird. So he was dead, but not really dead, and could use the life Force of Rey and Kylo to become alive again (or just "alive"?). And the Sith Lords were all in a stadium watching this all happen? Why? I don't know, that whole plot just left me sort of confused.
Rey God-mode is a little annoying, but I just tried to chalk it up as her being super-gifted with the Force. I mean shite, if it can make a blind guy dominate in battle, it can also make a frail little girl do it too.
Certain things felt too forced (pun half-intended) just because they needed to happen. We have an ally that has some key information, and we get the info and now he's dead. We have a mole in the Order, and he saves the day and now he's dead. It felt very deux ex machina at times, and felt like things were plugged in because the plot needed advancing.
The whole Force bond thing with Kylo and Rey was annoying. Especially how they could physically interact with each other all the damn time. Why would either one of them ever have to look for the other? They can just connect that way and call it a day.
It felt stupid that C3PO was not "programmed" to translate the Sith text.
The bait and switch with Chewy's faux death felt cheap.
Hux being the spy felt a little cheap as well.
Rey....Skywalker? Meh. Just say Palpatine and own it.
Loved Lando being back in the mix.
The Imperial-like army that Palpatine had was badass.
I'm sure there are more, those are just off the top of my head.

See, I'm fine with this. The Force wasn't explained in the original trilogy and that made it cool.
Lucas tried to overexplain it with Midichlorians and **** in the prequels and that fell flat. The Force is fine when it's not explained to the point it's no longer interesting.
Bringing the Emperor back was sort of a lazy, safe choice to me at the beginning. But as the movie went along, I was fine with it. Star Wars doesn't have to be constantly new. It was conventional but entertaining and felt like a continuation of the originals. That's good enough for me.
