I hear people dispute this all the time but it shouldn't be a debate.

The clone wars clearly showed Anakin WAS the chosen one. The tragedy was that he had to completely fall in order to get it done. Instead of making all the light side choices he went off the beaten path but his role was still fulfilled in the end.

Was Luke a major factor? Yes, absolutely. He was a huge factor, but Anakin was the one who did it in the end.

Some of the debate came from Darth Maul's last words while dying in the arms of Obi.

quote:

Maul's end came quick, and Obi-Wan held his former enemy as he died. Knowing Obi-Wan has a purpose on Tatooine, Maul says “tell me, is it the chosen one?” Obi-Wan answers: “He is.” and Maul’s last words are “he will avenge us”.

Many took that as Obi referring to Luke as the Chosen One and that is why he was there.

Maybe they both are?

They both ultimately brought balance to the force in different ways. But with no anakin, there would be no luke..and with no luke, anakin would've been lost forever.

One thing for sure about this series, it has generated some good discussions.

It’s not the chosen two.
Anikan successfully takes out the Jedi and Sith by himself, and leaves the galaxy in his offsprings hands on where it goes from there as far as the force is concerned, and I say that completely ignoring the shitty sequel trilogy b/c that never happened as far as movie/tv shows go in my book.

A very hit or miss series that simultaneously feels rushed and dragged out. It has brought some good moments that make for good repeat viewing on youtube.

I still think the lightsabers look like the toy lightsabers you can buy at Disney World.

The duel, especially the end with Anakin’s mask coming partly off and his true voice coming out again and what Obi was said to him, was one of the highlights of the entire Star Wars franchise.

That last 30 mins was great. The voice going back and forth between vader and anakin was chilling.

Absolutely. There’s only one other moment in Star Wars that is that powerful and it was when Anakin was defeated on Mustafar and burned. This wasn’t on that level but it stands on the next tier with any other Star Wars moment.

It was more powerful when Rebels did the exact same thing with Ahsoka and Vader first (although not chronologically first).

I would agree its anakin.

Usually if you are conceived through immaculate conception its a sign of being a chosen one

Didn't Yoda foresee everything when he took R2 on that secret mission? I think he also learned about how to become a force ghost there too. Anyways, I loved that episode because it totally changed the lens I looked at the OT through. When Yosa is speaking to Obi Wan and says "I cannot do this" (or something to that regard) it made that hit so much harder as Yoda knowing what needs to be done but faltering

What if I told you that was by design?

Uh, Anakin died in ep III

And again in ep VI

The emperor survived all the way to ep IX. Meaning Anakin did almost nothing to bring balance to the force

Lukes turning his father, and his own ultimate sacrifice in ep VIII created the swing back to the good side for the force. I mean his story intro film is retitled A New Hope, because Lucas had passed the torch to Luke. Darth actually facilitated the largest imbalance of the force during the 9 movie franchise

But Kathleen isnt done yet. Shes doing all she can to ensure that Leia will eventually be seen as the "real" chosen one

This never happened. There is no episode 9, or 8, or 7.
