And it really really sounds Italian, not just in language but in tone...as an Italian dialect...interesting how Napoleon sounded speaking French (which he learned around 10 years old) with that accent.

To a french native speaker,‘i’d imagine it sounds like a Corsican speaking english would to us.

Already wrong.

Bonaparte was not a tyrant but a liberator. I love how they call him a tyrant when every damn country was ruled by a king or Tsar.

Gladiator was probably the movie that did the best job of pulling off both so that gives me hope for this.

What about Gladiator was historically accurate?

Nothing dude.

I said it did the best job of pulling off the intense gritty stuff that focuses on moments and background mixed with telling a compelling story

Will be seeing it in the theater. Can't believe Scott is 85

Same and same. Scott is an absolute treasure and I will absolutely mourn the day he’s unable to direct these sprawling historical epics. This could easily be his last

My hopes for this movie are through the roof

I love Joaquin Phoenix as an actor but I have no idea why they cast a 48-year-old to portray Napoleon in his late '20s and early '30s.

No man alive today (especially no one in Hollywood or any male in his 20's or 30's) would be capable of portraying the energy, motivation, and mindset of a true classical man like Napoleon.

I'll accept Joaquin as Napoleon - as long as Scott doesn't butcher the story by trying to portray Napoleon as fueled by sexual frustration or Josephine, and her infidelity, as his prime motivation. Or interject some BS social justice crap.

I agree it absolutely wasn’t what fueled hjm and I dont think that’s the approach. i’d you watch the trailer Napoleon is talking to Barraza (I think) before 13 Vendemiarie and telling showing his ambition and that would be before Josephine.

It looks like he’s going to display how truely weird and toxic their relationship was.

Soo there are supposedly 5 battle scenes in 2.5 hours so should be fun

I can give you a few good podcast recommendations.

Nosier’s Napoleon episodes are good but cover a lot of ground jn like 6 hours.
Revolutions Podcast’s french revolution talks about napoleons quite a bit. If you pick up around Season 3 Episode 42.
Age of Napoleon is a decent podcast but very thorough on Napoleon

The trailer shows the Siege of Toulon...Napoleon was only 24 years old.

It shows the Egyptian Expedition, he was only 29.

He crowned himself Emperor at 35.

He was 36 at Austerlitz.

Hell, he was only 46 at Waterloo...Phoenix is still two years older toward Napoleon's end.

I’ll never understand why people try to judge a historical person/figure by today’s morals/ways of thinking/rational. They constantly do this, and try to use current ideology to paint them as a “bad person” and should be demoralized and shite on.
