The development follows reports of disastrous internal screenings of Gerwig's $280 million fantasy production, creative disagreements between the director and Lin, and growing concerns about the film's quality.
According to an October 19 report from Variety, Lin was dismissed over the weekend amid a sweeping restructuring of Netflix's entertainment leadership.
However, recent reporting suggests the problems surrounding Narnia may have contributed directly to Lin losing his job.

Shortly after news of Lin's departure broke, Jeff Sneider of The Insneider took to social media to connect the executive's dismissal to Gerwig's upcoming adaptation of C.S. Lewis' fantasy series.
"Lin was fired over the weekend and im told that NARNIA was a factor," Sneider wrote.

Hiring Gerwig to head this film was a fricking moronic decision.

Not really, she was coming off Barbie. It makes business sense

Netflix earnings out tomorrow. This news, plus the fact that Narnia screenings were terrible resulting in multiple reshoots and editing done by Lin seems like bad news.

So much sense that it cost him his job.

Yes, It's never happened before. First time we're seeing this

Well I was extremely skeptical when I heard the choice of Meryl Streep but thr preview actually looked….ok
The screenings are interesting though.
I really don’t understand the choice of gerwig for what is supposed to be a conservative family property.i get “Barbie” but that was pg13 and per my understanding feminist tones (I didn’t see it). Her association made me balk at it not give gravitas to it
The way to play this was to play it straight and lean into the conservative family tones and market it to the conservative right.
Disney did that for lion witch and the wardrobe and made a killing.
I know they subsequently fell off but those weren’t marketed like the first

That Narnia trailer looked like arse. Stairway couldn't even save it.

Was that response meant for me? You seem to be carrying on your own conversation inside your head.

Apparently, Gerwig is a huge C.S. Lewis fan and this was a passion project for her. While her own views will certainly be reflected in the film someway, I don’t see her getting too far away from the source material. She even got the blessing of the Lewis estate

Well given that Aslan is explicitly male and she has a woman voice him
Additionally if the screenings are that bad in a movie directed by critic loved gerwig with the lib approved feminization of a classic male literary character that is a stand in for God it makes me think she REALLY screwed it up.

Snider says Lin was fired because of a Falling out with Gerwig, who complained directly to Sarandos. Not that Lin was fired because Narnia is a failure, as people in this thread seem to be interpreting it.
Regardless, this sounds like BS. A top executive isn't going to get fired for a fallout with one director. Just like an executive isn't going to get fired for the theoretical failure of movie that won't release for 4 more months.
Lin's firing is not a surprise to anyone reporting in Hollywood. Netflix just fired 1000 people, including its top content executives. Bela is not good because of Narnia.
Dan Lin was probably fired because of all the film directors recently leaving. Because they didnt generate a big hit this year akin to KPop Demon Hunters. Or how about that half billion dollar dud that never charted, The Electric State?

Sounds like Rian Johnson being a huge Star Wars fan and we saw how false that was

“Narnia is a mega woke slop insanity,” says the source. “Think Amazon Rings of Power but worse.”
The $280 million movie is already in serious trouble inside Netflix, where insiders have called it “awful” and “a genuine problem.”
That report also described friction between Gerwig and Lin over the film, with reshoots ordered after a summer test screening.

I doubt it will be all that, but the amount of reshoots and internal conflict doesn't bode well.
Netflix is very inconsistent right now, and it's hurting them on the bottom line. They went from "Have a script? Greenlit!" into what seems to be more direct oversight. They over compensated and let bean counters exert too much influence over the directors.
You need both, but it seems no one is on the same page. Best to clean house and bring in a new leadership group with a unified vision and standards.
People can talk about woke vs anti woke all they want (and there's an argument to be made), but this feels more like just a corporate reset. Netflix is in no danger of going anywhere.

A general family audience
I don't agree with calling family based entertainment conservative necessarily either. Although I will admit progressive ideals like a gender fluid Aslan are not a good fit
