In general that's probably fair, but THIS IP? Yeah, if done accurately it's going to be "conservative".

creative disagreements between the director and Lin

If true, I'm not sure this is a good sign for Narnia. It's possible he opposed the extraordinarily stupid decision to cast Meryl Streep as Aslan.

To be clear, and because this board is filled with morons, I am not saying I have any sort of inside information about this firing. I'm simply saying that "creative disagreements" could mean a number of things.

Most people are so oblivious they don't even notice the religious motifs staring them in the face.

Obviously GG being given free reign to alter the Christian creation story (or other Narnia stories) is offensive to Christians. If they attempted a similar modification to stories with Muhammad the filmmakers would live under the threat of death like Salman Rushdie

Not really, she was coming off Barbie. It makes business sense

It was very smart to be in the Gerwig business

It was not smart to be in on her doing Narnia

Hiring Gerwig to head this film was a fricking moronic decision.

She doesn't fit Narnia.

it's weird they'd exclusively use white, racist, misogynistic, men to comprise their test audiences

Lion and the witch and the wardrobe made 746 billion in 2005 leaning into it

They even released an album of music by Christian artists of songs “inspired by the chronicles of Narnia” LINK

Netflix and Gerwig went opposite. Interestingly enough critics don’t seem to be rewarding them for it

Screenings I guess is the more appropriate word.

Also say what you want about the nerds and YouTubers variety is also citing poor screenings of magicians nephew and disagreements between Lin and gerwig as being an issue.

I thankfully have never wasted a minute of my life watching nerds on youtube trying to convince me what I need to hate for clicks.

I'm a fan of the source. Currently I'm out on seeing this given the Streep casting. Though i guess Gerwig has been referring to Aslan as a he so maybe she did a twofold voice for Aslan and a male voices him as well. The White Witch using magic in the real world is a bigger concern imo. Might give it a shot if some of the reports change but I didn't even bother watching the trailer.

I'm still baffled that he thinks Barbie is in any way similar to a movie based on the Narnia books. They're both movies; aside from that.........

Same. In fact that’s the only reason i know the variety reporting on it because I took other stuff with a grain of salt because of generating rage clicks. I want this to be good.

I was out but got more intrigued by the trailer

Upfront this didn’t completely bother me because it’s been so long since I read the book. My kid read it recently though.

I was a staunch defender on the odyssey btw.

The implied change of aslan to female via Meryl Streep takes away a massive amount of the essence of the character. (Though I didn’t know Gerwig has referred to him as a he so maybe there’s hope) Whereas I found the casting of Juno for Simon to fit the essence of the character.

All of it is such a self own imo. The baked in audience for a CS Lewis property is the people who would get upset about that.

And I don’t see the Gerwig fans going out of their way to watch a narnia origin story just because of her.

We will see though.

If we see positive momentum and word of mouth I’m going to see it but what would be an auto “take my money” has gone to a…..I’m going to wait and see

Why? What would be the point of casting a woman only to make her sound like a man?

That's retarded feminist fat chick stuff. Oh wait.

pparently, Gerwig is a huge C.S. Lewis fan and this was a passion project for her.
