Why? What would be the point of casting a woman only to make her sound like a man?

I can't find it now, but there was what looked like a credible story going around a couple of days ago that they did just that, according to test audiences. The Aslan voice is modified to be very manly. Apparently, the Aslan voice was the least of the test audience's issues.

Why?What is the point of paying an expensive female actress to voice a character that won't even sound like her? This whole thing is just a mess.

Publicity. It doesn't sound like it's going to help, though.

So again, why do that? Just to defile the work and the author's religious beliefs by replacing de facto Jesus with a woman?

That seems to be the only explanation. If it's not, I'd love to hear from Gerwig why she did that.

Hell if I know. I’m just telling you what I heard. From day one I’ve said this was the dumbest casting choice in the history of casting choices.

The way to play this was to play it straight and lean into the conservative family tones and market it to the conservative right.

Current day Hollywood views that as fascist & patriarchy coded. Or some such trash.

Current day Hollywood

Whose only lifeline these days are comic book heroes and demon-fueled arthouse sadist-fests.

Hollywood deserves to crumble and rot.
