With so much division on poli-type stuff and not seeing the other side, let's discuss your own misses.

My misses:

1. Timothy Olyphant - The first time I remember him specifically was in The Girl Next Door (2004). I didn't like him or think anything of it. But the dude has made great show after great show and seems a genuinely funny and great guy.

2. Andy Samberg - I caught the late train to Lonely Island. I thought he was okay and goofy, watched him giving a graduation commencement speech, but didn't see him as a funny and charismatic lead. Nine-Nine!

3. Saving Private Ryan - Being former military the opening is without words. But it lost me for a while and went up and down. I appreciate it more now than when I first watched it.

4. Arrested Development - I caught this initially on re-runs, out of order nonsense. I thought why do people like this. Until - I watched from the start and is now easily top 10 for me. Amazingly smart and nuanced.

I have a few more misses for sure, and this isn't a mt rushmore thread, but I'd like to read M/TV take. I think you guys will have a lot to offer.

Felt the same way about him initially. He’s incredible

He's #1 on my list for a reason. I kinda struggled with #2-4... so I wanted opinions. I've literally rabbit-holed into him and Conan, all of interviews, his work... dude is incredible. I missed that boat, but huge fan now.

Rob Pattinson has turned into a pretty good actor after being in Twilight.

Leo was the stupid pretty boy from Titanic that all the girls swooned over, and I couldn’t stand him (more like couldn’t stand hearing about him).

Now he’s one of my favorite actors.

I thought the Rock in the Mummy 2 was a dumb gimmick.

Now he just wails, yells, screams, and cries. He’s a poor man’s William Shatner and is clearly the most overrated actor in Hollywood.

I've never liked Olyphant. I'm not even sure why either, I just am not a fan. I've liked some of his movies though, and Deadwood. Just not because of him or his acting.

One I missed on was McGruber. I used to not like Will Forte too much, and although I enjoyed the SNL sketches, I figured the movie would be stupid as hell. I finally watched it five or so years ago and it was awesome. Was mad at myself for that one.

he's one of the bigger ones i think we can all agree with. Scream 2, Catch and Release, and Die Hard 4, i couldn't believe the guy kept getting work.

then hitman and i was actually kinda surprised at how well he did it. didn't have HBO to see deadwood, but he changed my mind completely in Justified.

Leo and Rob Pattinson are good choices.

As far as a show that I initially dismissed would be the Office. I watched the first 2 seasons and remember thinking this is one of the most overrated shows I'd ever seen. It wasn’t until I started giving it a try again last year during quarantine that it started growing on me. I absolutely love it now.

Denzel Washington - couldn't stand him when he was always playing the "black man that got wronged but gonna prove himself right". Training Day turned me around and made me a fan

Timothy Olyphant

I clicked on the thread just to mention Olyphant. I first noticed him in Deadwood and I would have never guessed that he was so funny. Turns out Bulloch was just written with a stick up his arse and Olyphant played him perfectly.

Bryan Cranston comes to mind. I remember him having bit parts on Seinfeld and king of queens. Then he was on malcom in the middle, a show I never really paid attention to. Then he’s on Breaking Bad and starring in huge movies.

Mark Wahlberg.
Not that he's some extraordinary actor but he has worked out pretty well in a lot of roles. When he first popped up in some movies, I was like "Marky Mark in a movie? No way!"

Pauly Shore. I was sure he would be the next Jimmy Stewart then he just fell off the face of the Earth.
