Zac Efron. Thought he was just a modern David Cassidy, but he has range.
He's been hilarious in several of his flicks, was genuinely entertaining in Greatest Showman and was excellent as Bundy.

Schitt's Creek and The Office for me. I just could not get into the first season of either show for whatever reason. After a while I tried both of them again and loved them.

Yep. I've got a teenage daughter now, and she used to watch those High School Musical movies, and I thought he was just another Disney actor. Really never saw him in anything until we watched Greatest Showman, and he was great in that. I've seen a few other things he's been in since then and all have been good or great performances.

I'll have more once I think about the topic, but the first one that always comes to mind is Joaquin Phoenix in Gladiator. Did not like him the 1st time through the movie. During my 2nd & 3rd watch I realized, that was the freaking point of his character

I felt the same way about Gosling. Just thought he was some slow white dude that couldn't beat out Turk 
But seriously, thought he was just going to be one of those guys that coasted based on his looks and really started to like him in the Nice Guys & Crazy, Stupid, Love

Bradley Cooper, first thing I saw him in was Wedding Crashers, thought he was just a throw away typical dumb jock actor. Then the hangover, and I still didn't think great things. then he completely won me over with silverlinings playbook.

Good call. Going by his early stuff, I didn't see his career taking off like it did and being in so many hit movies.
His appearance in one "Taxi" episode was mainly slapstick, physical comedy for his 2 minutes on air and his role in "Bosom Buddies" with Peter Scolari was no great shakes in television history. I figured both of them would fade into obscurity after that show ended, but that only happened to Scolari who's career has been hit and miss, mostly miss.
Hanks list of movies ranks right up there with some of the very best Hollywood had offered over the years.

I had dismissed Shia LaBeouf as another kid star turned shitty actor, but the dude completely won me over in Fury. The guy can act his arse off if he has the right role and puts his mind to it.

Chris Evans. I didn't think that there was any way that the actor who played Johnny Storm and Jake Waller (Not Another Teen Movie) could be a decent Captain America.

Aside from that smokin' hot bod from the 8 Simple Rules and early TBBT years, I thought she was a lightweight who might just disappear after TBBT ended. She made some completely forgettable movies during the TBBT years. I watched one or two of them and those are what made me wonder if she had any future after TBBT. But she hit a home run with The Flight Attendant, in which she was a familiar character but was able to show off much more of her range. She created and produced this project herself. I wonder if indeed her career might have tanked if she hadn't made this move.

I thought their early work was very "meh" and they were overhyped because of their looks/appeal to teenage girls.
I reconsidered Leo after watching The Aviator. For Pitt, that turn was slower. I appreciated the work he did in True Romance and 12 Monkeys. After watching him in Benjamin Buttons and ultimately Moneyball, he's a much better actor than I initially gave him credit for.
Of course, I think it is, to a degree, these cats did have potential and grew as actors.
