I cancelled last night. Wanted to go see The Predator, but it wasn't listed on the app. No sense in paying for a product that I can't use.

MoviePass Under Investigation For Fraud And Misleading Investors
quote:
Helios and Matheson Analytics, the company behind the subscription-based movie ticket provider MoviePass, is under investigation by the office of the New York Attorney General for allegedly misleading investors about MoviePass’ financial sustainability. Attorney General Barbara Underwood’s probe seeks to find whether Helios and Matheson violated the Martin Act, an anti-fraud measure meant to protect New York investors and financial markets.

Moviepass will definitely be on “I love the 2010’s” one day

Can't wait to see a balding, overweight ex-member of One Direction riffing on it.

It was great for the ten months or so that I had it, but once they started making it more difficult to see the movies that I wanted to see, I dropped them with quickness.

Previously I averaged about 4 to 6 movies a year. I will always fondly look back at 2017-2018, when I saw 46 movies on MoviePass in 10 months, for an average price of $2.16 per movie.
MoviePass successfully got me addicted to going to the movies (which in a way was not what they wanted
Thanks MoviePass, for forcing AMC's hand. Investors may be pissed, but for moviegoers you successfully changed the consumer experience.

Is there a Mississippi version of this? Because it sounds a lot like what someone I know does every single day

I was almost the exact same. I hadn’t been to the movies in at least 5 years, and then went 36 Sunday’s in a row.
I cancelled at the same time as you too. Unfortunately, I only have Cinemark theaters near me, and it’s Deal might be the only one in the country worse than moviepass.

It was great for 4 1/2 years at $30 to $40 a month for a movie a day. Once they switched from movie lovers to people who don't see movies, we were fricked.

I haven't seen a movie in the theaters since Moviepass became unusable. I am pondering switching to Sinemia but I just don't see enough movies to justify AMC's monthly deal. Three movies a month is about all I want.
In part because with more than three a month the wife constantly wants to see terrible movies "for free". That's not free, that's two hours out of my life a shot.

Why didn't you just check in for one of the available movies that you didn't want to see and then used your card to buy a ticket for the movie you did want to see? What's the worst they can do; cancel your membership?

MoviePass’s owners want to spin it off into its own company
Now the dipshits who bought a functioning ticket company and, within months, ran it into the ground are embarrassed to be in the ticket business. "Hey, we're a data company, not a movie ticket company!" I hope MoviePass drags them all down.
Hopefully some day-traders made a few bucks off of H&M's smoke and mirrors.

It seems MoviePass’s owner, Helios and Matheson Analytics (HMNY), is a bit embarrassed by all the bad press the movie ticketing company is getting and thus wants to segregate it from its parent company. As Ted Farnsworth, chairman and CEO of HMNY, said in a press release announcing the plans:quote:While Farnsworth doesn’t explicitly say that MoviePass’s problems are bad optics for HMNY, it’s easy to read between the lines as we’ve never heard an explanation like this for spinning off a company before.
For many years, HMNY has been focused on data analytics, and in that capacity we own assets like Zone Technologies which provides a safety and navigation app for iOS and Android users and a global security concierge service. Since we acquired control of MoviePass in December 2017, HMNY largely has become synonymous with MoviePass in the public’s eye, leading us to believe that our shareholders and the market perception of HMNY might benefit from separating our movie-related assets from the rest of our company.

I've done this. I don't feel bad about it either. The consistently want to change the rules, so why not do use it. I checked in for some awful movie the other day and at the kiosk I selected the movie I wanted to see and proceeded to swipe the card.

Our 2 most recent MP trips have let us check in off site. I live about 3 mi as the crow flies from our Regal and I checked in from home as my wife left with both cards to get the tix as box office opened.

If I was still an active member I would be abusing the crap out of that service. Buy a ticket and see if you can get a raincheck instead of a refund.

I just check in on the app for whatever movie is available and then just use the card to buy a different ticket. The card isn't tracking what movie is being seen, and since they no longer ask for stub pics... No reason to buy the right ticket and sneak into a better movie. Just buy the better movie ticket
