re: MoviePass on its last legs?

I've seen some people post about Sinemia in here. Any issues at all? I would do A-List, but there's only one AMC within a somewhat reasonable distance, and it shows almost no Indie movies whatsoever. I feel like I'm better off doing three movies a month and then biting the bullet for a few spare tickets for about 4-6 months of the year.

I’ve only used Sinemia twice but it was great both times. I also never had an issue with actually using Moviepass. My issue with Moviepass is that they are choosing what movies you can see on what day. You won’t get that with Sinemia and you’ll be able to book in advance. The one issue with Sinemia is they are cardless now so you have to get your tickets online which means convenience fees. For now you can book with Fandango through Facebook and the fees are waived but that is temporary.

Unsurprisingly, MoviePass has found yet another way to screw its members. Now annual subscribers, who put their faith in MoviePass by laying out the cash for a whole year, are being forced to the monthly 3-movie plan early, or they can cancel and get a prorated refund.

Just to rub salt in the wound it seems like the change is retroactive. So if you're an annual subscriber and you've seen 3 movies this month you can't see anymore until next month.
ETA: I'm also seeing people saying that when they try to cancel and get a refund they get an error logging in that says the login credentials didn't match an eligible account.

Although I will almost certainly cancel MP before my next billing cycle, I may take them up on a couple of the independent movies they are paying for. Blaze looks good, at least.

It's horrible. I saw it at the La. International Film Festival. You'll get to see some Baton Rouge exteriors. That's the extent of the entertainment value.

I was told by customer service today that that email was generated in error, and that a clarification will be coming soon.

Using AMC A-List has been a huge improvement.
Easier app usage and we don't have to get to the theater an hour early to get decent seats.

Then all that means is that the email went out too early OR they are playing dumb so people don't cancel and they can keep their money.
If they do that then I am 100% canceling and getting a pro-rated refund.
I do find it interesting that I never got that email, though.

Their M.O. is to screw you, then apologize, then make up for it by screwing you slightly less.

According to most outlets, the email was correct and if you don't cancel before the 31st, then you lose the rest of your annual pass benefits and immediately get grandfathered in on their 3-movie Monthly plan for the remaining months of the annual program.

Not surprisingly, they didn't send it from their normal "MoviePass" header email. This one came from the same noreply@moviepass.com account, but there was't the same "Name" that would've routed it to a priority inbox.

Important Update to Your Annual MoviePass Plan
Posted on 9/4/18 at 9:56 am to VoxDawg
We decided to hang in for our last 3 months and take the migration to the 3 movies/mo plan for the remainder of our annual plan, if but to get the rewards for the Regal promos from STX, Universal and Lionsgate, "See 4 (or 3) and get Digital Download" promos. LINK
That said, we didn't enjoy our prodigious theater-going habits being infringed, so we signed up for AMC A-List, too.

I've been checking my bank account to make sure MoviePass didn't bill me again. Seems like I'm good, they deleted me from their app as well.
We've been very Happy with the AMC deal. Looking forward to seeing something good in Dolby.

That alone would get me to cancel. That's a scumbag move.

Just saw this nugget in here. Saw Blaze here in Nashville. Hawke, the lad actor, and the guy that played Van Zant were all at the show. I was excited for the movie, but man, you are right. It was bad. Looked like a bad Linklater movie. In no way did Hawke make Blaze even somewhat of a sympathetic character.

Helios And Matheson Analytics (HMNY) Stock: Is MoviePass Breaking Even?
In short: MoviePass had a month where the people who were leaving paid for their final month, while MoviePass made it near impossible for people to see a movie.
In a couple of months the exodus will show up on their books and they'll no longer break even.
Their 2 cent trading price is great if you bought at the .1 cent price. Sell now if you have that stock.
quote:
Ted Farnsworth, CEO at MoviePass was recently featured in an interview on Fox. In the interview, Farnsworth said that MoviePass’ utilization rate has dropped to 0.9 movies per month per subscriber for more than 30 days, putting the company in a position of break even for the first time since Helios and Matheson took the controlling stake in the company about a year ago.
quote:
So, the company has rached 0.9 movies per month per subscriber by greatly limiting subscriber benefits. Unfortunately, this means that subscribers are getting upset and that they’ll start to fall off. As subscribers get upset and cancel their subscription, net revenues aren’t likely to be enough to cover the expenses associated with keeping MoviePass alive. So, while HMNY is enjoying a run in th market now, I’d be very careful as break even isn’t likely to last long for MoviePass
quote:
HMNY is trading at $0.028 per share after a gain of $0.0015 per share or 5.66% thus far today.

I know what you're saying, but I was able to see 10 movies in my final month by driving a bit further to a couple of e-ticketing theaters.
I want MoviePass to survive, and I was willing to do the 3 movies a month for $10, but the continuing restrictions on what you can see on a given day made the service unusable for me so I quit when it transitioned to the 3-movies-a-month plan. (Their wormy behavior didn't help things either.)
If MoviePass survives and they get back to letting you see what you want, I will be happy to return in 9 months and do 3 movies a month. I really liked the versatility of going to just about any theater.
In the meantime, I just signed up for A-List, and it already is so much better to use, reserving seats ahead of time and buying tickets for friends so we don't have to coordinate to try to get seats next to each other. Also the ability to rewatch films, in case two different groups of friends end up going to the same movie, will come in handy. The only reason I would go back to MoviePass is that more theaters will be available (the AMCs near me don't show indie films).

Sinemia just added MoviePass' original $29.99 movie-a-day program.
