Never understood why people love these shitty movies.

It doesn't make any sense. I know there are plenty of Star Wars fans that love things outside the movies too like the games, tv shows, comics, novels, etc. But the majority of the fan base watches the movies for the most part.

Let's look at the movies. The original trilogy is loved. The prequels are almost unanimously hated. TFA is seen as ok. There are polarizing opinions on the last two with no one seeming to like both (plenty that like one) of them. So like 3-4 of the 9 main movies are well liked. Yet people still crowd movie theaters to see them. I don't understand.

Nostalgia. Because of how the originals made us feel as kids. Star Wars was transformative at a certain age. Then all the toys, then Empire and ROTJ to follow on.

Then we as grown people, at some level, expect to feel watching the prequels/sequels like we felt when we watched the OT. It's not going to happen. I really disliked Jar Jar like most people but you know what? My young kid found him hilarious. I think we forget sometimes these things are fundamentally for kids.

There's still nothing better than sitting in a dark theater and having "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away" hit the screen followed by the infamous scroll. Still pisses me off when it isn't preceded by 20th century fox logo/theme. They were synonymous to me. :)

I don't go in stores that often but it's hard to pass buy the star wars toys without buying SOMETHING. I had the OG Vader/Skywalker figures with the bad plastic capes and sabers that slid out of the arms. Never was rich enough for the Falcon, x-wing, AT-AT...there were other toys to be sure, but nothing touched Star Wars for young boys back then.

It's amazing how shitty some of these movies are and we continue to love the franchise.

What other series has had this many misses, and is still beloved? Hell GoT was more consistent in a way, and it's now reviled front to back.

It speaks VOLUMES about the power of the original trilogy.

Back when Deadspin was still a good website, they wrote a great piece in the lead-up to the release of The Force Awakens that posed the question What If The New Star Wars Sucks?

It actually presents a pretty good point that for all of the fan hysteria and celebration of Star Wars as a franchise, it was basically comprised of (then) 2 great movies, 1 good movie, and three shitty movies, and thus is overrated as franchise in general. The Sequel Trilogy didn't exactly help that ratio.

Not clicking that link.

They got the top 2 right and then went right down the toilet.

I'm the right age for it, but I never went to the theater to see any of the original trilogy. So there isn't a nostalgia factor for me. I didn't really see them until I was older and they struck me as a badly acted, corny space soap opera.

When do y'all think we'll be getting the calls to cancel Rose Tico for her clearly not consensual kiss like we are getting calls to cancel the "true love's kiss" in Snow White and Sleeping Beauty because those aren't consensual?

Fake news. The Prequel Era, particularly the Clone Wars era is the best and most popular era now.

The prequels had some good moments and world building but I don’t know many people that look at those movies as being good in quality overall.

A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Rogue One were the best 3.

#4 Return of The Jedi

Solo, The Last Jedi, and Rise of Skywalker were the bottom 3.

5-8 can be in any order and you wouldn't be wrong.

I don’t find this to be the case at all. Almost everyone universally hates this movie.
