Yeah. The first two thirds of Rogue One was an absolute mess.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I just think the wooden acting and laughably bad dialogue of AOTC is in it's own league. They had absolutely no chemistry. Just a disaster of a pairing.

while i agree, like COVID responses, it shouldn't have been left v right but it was.
that being said, they got into slavery, Toxic Masculinity, KMT situation(poor girl just took a role... not her fault that the director was an idiot,) Mary Sueing w Rey, girl power, etc. Then people involved doubled down on a lot Johnson's direction when the masses obviously didn't like it. Then critics and Kennedy told the detractors they were just racists and misogynists.
went from there.

Am I crazy to rank Rogue One ahead of Return of the Jedi?
No, I do too.
I really went back and forth on it. Not crazy at all. However, the throne room scenes in ROTJ are just so damn good. The gap between number 2 and number 4 on this list is incredibly tiny. The gap between 4 and 5 is...substantial. The gap between 7 and 8 is like the grand canyon.

I mean the acting isn’t as atrocious in TLJ since I do think Rian Johnson is actually a decent director and gets good performances out of his cast, but I don’t see how “I don’t like sand” is worse than when Rose sabotages Finn’s sacrifice to save everyone, and then says we’re going to beat them by saving everyone they love. If “Luke” and Rey hadn’t shown up, she basically guaranteed all their deaths. No, if Rose had done something similar to that in real life that almost got everyone killed, they would have pulled the Falcon over the first chance they got, put a cigarette in her mouth, and be done with her via firing squad. That is a level of reckless stupidity that a high stakes military would not put up with for one fricking second.

AOTC is the worst SW film, IMO. It would make my list of worst films I've ever seen. I don't care for TLJ, but it's Citizen Kane when compared to the shite that is AOTC.
AOTC is almost good. I think you could get a decent movie by spending more time on the dooku/tyranus plot. Make it unclear that he is a legit villain until he ignites that crimson lightsaber. Spend less time on the Padme/Anakin plot. Boom good movie.

The prequels are a great story told poorly. Episodes 8 and 9 are a bad story told wellish.
The prequels are bad because of bad visuals, terrible dialogue, and bad acting. These films are incompetently made.
Sequels 7 and 8 are bad because of terrible story direction (or lack there of), bad character development, etc. Visually, it all looks fantastic. The acting is exceptional for a franchise of its type. Even the casting is a home run. These films are somewhat competently made. What makes TLJ so polarizing is that there are traces of a GREAT movie in there, but it's choked to death by terrible terrible story direction.

Is it really that hard to understand? Disney is extremely overt in their trumpeting of progressive "values" and TLJ was an obvious and hamfisted attempted to shoehorn all of that foolishness into the Star Wars universe, to the point that it actively ruined the movie. Entire plot points revolved around being as PC as possible rather than making any actual sense. Holdo won't tell anyone her plan to save the fleet, including the commander of her fighter wing, who freaks out about the fact that they don't appear to be doing anything at all, but she is presented as being right and he as wrong because he is just too masculine and focused on fighting and being strong. Rose dooms everyone to a horrible death but she is presented as being right because she is focused on saving what she loves rather than, you know, fighting the enemy - and this in the middle of a damn battle, mind you. Luke clearly has the power to defeat the entire First Order but he doesn't because he is just too peaced out and disgusted by violence, man, and he literally just fricking dies so he won't be forced to stand up and fight, and again, this is supposed to be the heroic choice. And that's just a few of many examples.
The movie is only defensible by those who praise the "braveness" of its choices, and clearly there's only one kind of person who is going to do that.

Women need to be included in society and have rights.
Second wave feminism:
Women need to have the same rights and opportunities as men in the workplace.
Third Wave feminism:
Showing a women in a film with flaws is an attack on all women. Every opportunity for a male protagonist must be replaced with a flawless female protagonist to put those men in their places! Women can do ANYTHING so female fictional characters must be able to do EVERYTHING!

I don't think TLJ has enough support to say that. Seems like many many more people dislike it rather than like it.

The top 3 nominees for worst scenes in all of star wars are all in the Last Jedi
1. Finn/Rose kiss
2. Space Mary Poppins (Leia in space scene)
3. Luke drinking titty milk

For me TFA is high because of the nostalgia for me. First starwars movie I saw in theaters. Rouge One is fantastic. Solo I enjoyed a lot but I just like the others too. Might change it around.

TBH, I actually thought that was funny in the movie. Of all the things in the movie involving Luke that I hated, this wasn't it.
I would have the same top 2 as you, but after that:
3. I hate sand
4. Not just the men, but the women and the children. I HATE THEM!!! (you know, cause they're SAND people)
5. Casino planet horse chase
6. Luke dies
7. Somehow...the Emperor returned...
