FYI, I had to search for it on the AppleTV app for it to come up. It wouldn’t come up from the Home Screen.

It probably is, but what does that matter? Those men fought and died alongside everyone else.

Episode 1 was excellent. Hope it stays that consistently good. I’d give my left nut for one of those jackets.

Amen

There is nothing woke about giving honor to those men.

Episode 1: A+++

I’m watching tonight. How do the first two episodes compare to BoB and The Pacific’s first two?

Both episodes were solid
Those planes were a pile of crap and they basically had to duct tape them together after every run
it's remarkable how young these soldiers were that fought that war

A lot of the flight scenes brought back memories of Dunkirk with the really intricate details of the handling of the plane

I'd do my best to try and not compare.

Nothing like this will rival BoB. And The Pacific didn't hit with me near as much as BoB (likely because I was comparing and I shouldn't have been).

I only watched the first episode last night, but it was solid and really well done. It's crazy how air warfare used to be back then.

I'm sure I'm in the minority on this, but I don't find Austin Butler to be that great of an actor. Maybe it's just me.

How is this US vs UK barfight getting me more patriotic than the actual dogfights?

I haven’t watched it yet (plan to this weekend) but I saw a sneak peak that had something in there that left me a little confused. Apparently one of the pilots was flying a mission with the 389th BG in May of 1943. The 389th was a B-24 group and wasn’t in England in May of ‘43. So this seems like a historical inaccuracy.

But like I said, I haven’t watched it yet. So maybe it’s explained.

Getting through episode 2. About halfway through. Enjoyed episode 1 and what I've seen of 2 so far.

I didn't expect to see this episode's nod to the others that made the whole thing work besides those in the plane - ground crews, repairmen, intelligence officers, ordinance crews etc. I appreciate that aspect as it was something I wasn’t even considering.

Also had no idea they used flare guns to signal each other mid flight

the flare guns during low visibility to keep them in formation was something I never knew was a thing

the British would do nightime runs and drop bombs blindly with no way of knowing if they actually hit anything

the usa pilots went during day to hit actual targets to help ground troops and making sure supplies were able to get to britain - I think that was the whole deal with the bar fight

you had to be strategic for any chance to succeed in d day and other campaigns

Both have their merits IMO. It all depends on the values you place on safety for your guys or hitting targets and making a difference on the ground. I can see the benefits of both, but it seems like actually destroying the targets would be the most important goal, so our way seems better, at least on the surface.

I liked E2. E3 looks badass, can’t wait to watch that one.

Kinda pisses me off how hard it is to become a pilot these days.

These men learned it in a few months but college wants to drag it out over 4 years.

I guarantee that if they had had the luxury of more time to train WWII pilots they would have taken it and a lot fewer men would have died in the air and on the ground. The pilots did an amazing job with the limitations put on them but they could have been better pilots with more training.

Red Tails episodes?

I do not know enough about this show but the one thing I did not like about The Pacific was how it jumped around and did follow one group like BoB. The Red Tails flew out of Italy after leaving Northern African and Sicily. So I am wondering are they going to jump between the two groups on different episodes.

Something Lucas's movie failed to show as well that by the end of 1942 most of the Luftwaffe fighter planes/corps was destroyed. They had very little left to shoot down allied bombers. Yes, the Red Tails were successful, but they did not hit the war until sometime in 1943 and by then the bombers biggest concern were anti air guns.

Austin Butler still has his Elvis accent in this.

First episode was ok. Felt weird. Too loose. I hope it tightens up.

I enjoyed that aspect as well. I wonder at what point a B-17 was declared totaled because they talked about patching up some forts that looked worse than Swiss cheese?

The first two episodes were disappointing. The technical aspects are great. The attention to detail is there. But the dialogue and character development is just not good. I hope it improves.
