Just saw it. I’m an OG Star Wars fan from the 80s. I really liked it. It reminded me of the books that came out after ROTJ with Luke going on adventures dealing with bad guys after the fall of the Empire. It was well made and was a fun movie. I couldn’t find anything to hate about it and actually enjoyed it quite a bit.

Know your genre. Space Western, fun adventure. Watch it like you’re a 10 year old boy going on an adventure. Relax. Have fun. Enjoy.

Every Sigourney Weaver scene was terrible, but she isn’t in many scenes, so I could excuse it.

I hated the sequels, loved Andor and Rogue One, and think Empire is the best movie followed by Star Wars: ANH.

It was good. Doesn’t move the story along, it’s stand alone, but quite good.

Lot of words to try to convince other adults to go see a children’s movie.

I know a ten year old, he doesn’t give a shite about Star Wars. I’ve tried to get my kids into it, and there are simply better options for limited screen time. And it’s a big pass for them.

I’ll take your advice.

This is like the MTV board version of “I’m a three time Trump voter but [insert liberal comment]” on the politics board, but for Disney SW apologists.

10 year olds aren't the problem.

It's 50 year olds that expect Star Wars to make them feel like they did when they were 6.

It’s a stupid looking concept. That’s the main drawback of it.

I think a bunch of producers and writers sat in a room with a dozen or more possible titles to this movie and decided to pick the worst one.

I enjoyed it, but seemed like the first few episodes of a season. It didn’t seemed to build to anything. I have a suspicion that it was supposed to have more, but they are about to redo things so had to cut some of that out.

Poli needs a sub Disney and MTV. Maybe someone will be able to explain LOTR to people.

Btw, I opened this thread titled… “Mandalorian and Grogu was actually … really good.” and it only took a few seconds to read about Trump and liberals.

It is strange.

Why would someone be mad about discussing a movie on the "Movie/TV Board"?

I thought the movie was entertaining. It is a step in the right direction.

I don't have a problem with folks enjoying this movie; if they do, good for them.

That said, I don't think there's a right or wrong answer on this one. Some people will see it more like an extended episode and be annoyed that they didn't just do that; others will enjoy a simple movie without the deep plot and deconstruction of legacy heroes like Rian Johnson did with TLJ.

I don't think many people would argue with these. TFA was formulaic... easily forgivable if they had followed it up with strong sequels with the new cast; instead, it will be viewed horribly due to the utter failures of TLJ and ROS.

Empire being the best movie in the franchise is hardly a lonely stance to take.

I don't mind standalone stories; however, every Star Wars MOVIE has been part of the original storyline (either prequels leading up to, or sequels set afterwards). Even Rogue One and Solo are technically prequels, giving the franchise 5 prequels, 3 original trilogy movies, and 3 sequels (thankfully retconned soon). So it's not an invalid complaint if someone finds it odd to make a movie that isn't part of that initial story or the characters within them.

Took my 8yo to see it yesterday
Yeah it was like extended episode of the show and the second act ran slow and long but overall it was good
No agenda, lots of creatures
Sigourney Weaver was worthless - wonder how much she got paid to do absolutely nothing for about 5 minutes of screentime

Sigourney Weaver

Her character was a fighter pilot, back in the rebellion. Because of course she was. Fought along side Princess Leia, member her? Member?

She's actually older than Carrie Fisher (RIP) and will be 77 later this year.

Or, she's currently 13 yrs older than when Sir Alec Guinness played Obi Wan Kenobi.
