re: Lord of the Rings: one of the most overrated movie trilogies of all time

You haven’t said why it’s complicated, that’s the first thing I asked you. How is it complicated when you claim “it’s some guys walking to a volcano”? You’re deflecting because by your own comments you eroded the logic you based your opinion on. Youre drowning in your own BS.

So it was too complicated for you as well? Jeez man

The Clerks 2 rant is pretty on point with how I feel about Fellowship
Randal was a hilarious character and that scene was meant to satirize internet fandom about movie trilogies. Kevin Weisman’s character represents all of the dudes on here who get super defensive and butthurt when someone criticizes their favorite movie trilogy.
People need to lighten up. These are fricking movies. Harry Potter and SW are my favorite film franchises yet you won’t see me getting defensive if someone shits on them.

Definitely an MSNBC watcher.

the LOTR story or their visual effects make them more enjoyable than movies like Star Wars and Harry Potter.
I'm no Tolkein fanboy, but this opinion suggests you are fanboy of those other properties.
There are 2 good Harry Potter movies. Out of 8.

You not understanding is why you don't understand, I think.
My take is not quite as hot as yours but I enjoyed The Hobbit trilogy more.

I’m sure someone else already said this but I regret I have but one downvote to give you

I’ve never understood how someone with your intelligence can remember to breathe. Isn’t it exhausting putting one foot in front of the other every day?

Anakin has a clear and defined character arch that’s efficiently told by Lucas without giving too much away. In Episode 4, 5, and 6, much of his story is told only through Obi Wan and we don’t even see him as a character until the very end when Luke takes his mask off. Say what you want about George Lucas, but that’s a pretty damn good character arch Yes, the prequels were flawed as hell but they at least had a vision and filled in the backstory that was elaborated on by Obi Wan in A New Hope and ROTJ

Fellowship is boring as all hell, and nothing happens
are you sure you watched the extended edition? the shire has some really great scenes that weren't in the theatrical release

Like saying terminator is a shite series because why didnt they just go back to the 1800s and murder sarah connors great grand parents? " its just 6 movies about trying to prevent stuff that will happen anyway"

t’s a high fantasy story that requires you to have read all of the books to even have the slightest understanding of what’s going in on.
Never read the books and I’ve actually been watching the extendeds this week and thought - they do a very good job of simplifying what you can tell is coming from a much more in-depth source material.
If you can’t follow the lotr rings movies… it’s you. And it’s pretty damn casual as well

If you have never even touched the books, it’s super hard to follow.
This is objectively wrong. In fact, I'd say the movies lay it out relatively clear.
I have two very psychotic 9 year old girls, and neither of them had any problems following the story end-to-end when they joined me for last Christmas' rewatch.

MTV board is rife with stupid takes, and this one is one of the dumbest, ever.
It is considered one of the greatest trilogies because there's no "Godfather 3," "Alien 3" or "Return of the Jedi". All three were well directed, well acted and had great writing with a great score and (at the time) cutting edge effects.
Are there other great trilogies?
Sure.
Back to the Future
Indiana Jones (original 3)
Man With No Name
Die Hard (original 3)
Dark Knight Trilogy
But you also have to consider the original abortive efforts to adapt LOTR.
Ralph Bashki's animated version in the 70s (not terrible, but a commercial and critical failure)
John Boorman's live action effort in the late 70s (sets later used for Excalibur)
It was considered to complex and unwieldy, yet Jackson pulled it off.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but LOTR is appropriately rated.

Love how it’s too complex yet it’s just three movies of people walking to a volcano
