The extra ticket was probably Kevin's return ticket

Nope. It was first class. And they established the kids rode coach. And you can't exchange tickets when the first one on a flight isnt used - the whole itinerary is then canceled. So Kevin's coach ticket to paris is useless flying back from paris

Also - these tickets were traveling back on FRIDAY - the friday two days later everyone switched to so they could get home early for Kevin (trip was supposed to be 2 weeks not 2 days).

Caught it yesterday and thought it was great. I learned a lot of new things about the movie. I bet WB was kicking themselves after they booted the film over a $3 million budget dispute.

$3 mil budget dispute? I think it was said in MTMU that while WB initially approved a $10 mil budget, their final offer was $13.5 mil or about $1.2 mil less than what the executive producer was seeking. Either way, it was hilarious to hear about how that all went down and how the studio move unintentionally brought Daniel Stern back into the role.

I don't recall if it's been discussed in the thread, but the scene with the old man in the church with the choir is interesting. It's a children's choir with at least 30 kids singing but there's maybe 6 people in the pews. Where are all the parents/family? Do they not want to watch their kids sing? The old man is there to see his granddaughter but his son isn't there?

i always assumed they were practicing for midnight mass or christmas morning mass. i thought the old man was there to watch practice since he wasn't welcome to be around when the rest of the family was there

Ah valid point I didn't think about that. I'm not Catholic so a midnight mass never crossed my mind.

LSU should go for it. They’d be dumb not to.

Yes it was practice for the evening service. Mom probably dropped her off so Granddad didn't have to interact with father. Poor mom..having to run interference with the dysfunctional paternal side of the family...

What do you think started the argument between father and son?

Tension over time.

Old man Marley just wasn’t a good father to son growing up. Suffered from PTSD from Korean War, had Chicago union bullshite at work all the time. Old man carried a lot of stress and thought his son was soft (cause he would half arse shovel the driveway and was a momma’s boy). Hard on the kid.

Son then marries a redhead who ran the show and demanded he passive aggressively confront the old man. You think old man gonna take that shite? No way. Blow up ensues. They don’t speak. Old man softens up as most do. Regretful but stuck in his old ways, he just can’t come out and say how he feels. War will do that to man. Shame.

This may have already been addressed but Uncle Frank..based on the family dynamic of the McCallister men and their potential criminal ties..if this was Godfather..is Uncle Frank basically Fredo? He's a sniveling weak weasel compared to his brothers..one of whom has a place in France and a Central Park fronted home..the other a high end accountant in Chicago for a mob family.

Not the Fredo part.

Shame indeed. At least they (presumably) reconciled.

I would watch a “The Wiz” version of Home Alone set on the south side of Chicago.

Casting idea: reunite Keenan and Kel as the robbers

SIAP

There's a documentary on Netflix called "The Movies that Made Us" that features behind the scenes and how the scripts came about. One of the episodes has Home Alone. It's very interesting.

Other than the Home Alone movies, this the first thing I associate Daniel Stern with now.

Also, a house of 20 people and every single one over sleeps? Alarm clocks working or not. Has this been hit on yet?

I know I’m replying to a 7 year old comment, but didn’t the house lose power? I’m assuming they had to wake up crazy early which is why they overslept without alarms

Correct, though NOT ONE of them woke up at some point?

Solid bump.

The Rewatchables podcast did an episode last week breaking down HA (first one), and it reminded me of this thread.

Some pretty good commentary in there breaking down Kevin's mom's call to the police department, which I hadn't thought of. We usually focus on the ineptness of that Village Police Department and how they blow her off, especially the cop who does the house check, but she deserves a lot of shite for completely misrepresenting the situation and not giving the whole story in order to avoid getting into trouble. She doesn't give his age nor does she explain the fact they forgot him and know he's there, and basically just acts like she's some helicopter parent whose teenager is home and just wants them to "check on him."

You know, I never thought of it that way.
