I think the Droppie Movie Awards are more prestigious than the Oscars.

And generally more accurate.

Inception and Shutter Island were two of the best films of the year and his roles were played fantastic. He needs the awards..

Not true. I'd argue the Oscars are the most meaningful of any major award. It honors the best in "mainsteam" film-making, and it does a pretty good job at it.

An Oscar also seriously increases your leverage with the studio/producer . . . even for Leo.

Hmmmmm . . .

Edward Scissorhands
Donnie Brasco
Finding Neverland
The Libertine
What's Eating Gilbert Grape (speaking of DiCaprio)
Blow

. . . all just off the top of my head, are pretty good and varied performances.

I only saw Finding Neverland once. Bought it a while back, watched it once and it about put me to sleep.
Was his performance that good? I honestly don't remember. The movie was forgettable to me.

Dude jumps out of one hit movie and into the next one. Jumps out of bed with one super model and into the next one. Yeah, I feel real sorry for Oscarless Leo.

To me he's never been believable in some roles b/c of his babyface like aviator. He reminds a little bit of Pitt. I see Leo in a lot of the movies more than the character.

I agree with that 100%. Couldn't agree more...I've definitely found him unbelievable as certain people. Howard Hughes is a great example (although I did enjoy The Aviator).

it's genuinely hard to understate how good he was in that role.

If you can't understate how good he was, wouldn't that mean he was REALLY bad in it? Think about it.

How is he disrespected? Just because he hasn't yet won an Oscar? He's been nominated, but happened to lose to another solid performer.

The guy gets his choice of roles and commands serious money for his work. Not seeing the disrespect.

He was great as HH. The only knock I can see is that he was a baby faced 30 year old, so he looked too young for the part. But he definitely played the part.

My complaint is mainly with the Oscars. It just seems they don't like the guy. With his resume, being nominated only three times isn't exactly a compliment. And I know him winning one is debatable. I'm just stating my thoughts on it, and dont mind when someone disagrees. I don't feel sorry for him like some in the thread seem to think. I realize he's banging 10's and wipes his arse with 100 dollar bills. Clearly, from the OP, my complaint was with the award shows.

Exactly.

The Oscars are VERY political. Studios, actors, directors campaign hard for that shite. That's why they are often meaningless. Leo is not one to campaign. He has the career he wants and doesn't need an Oscar to give him a boost. I honestly don't think he gives a rat's arse if he wins an Oscar.
