Good movies are still coming out, but people don't show up to theaters to see them. Ironic you reference Marvel in your post.

I earnestly think the old model is dying and the right way forward is just posting the movie for free on YouTube. Open the gates, let the world flood in. Playhouses and musicals need to learn from this as well. Look at Starkid for example. It’s all free but yet they make all they need to keep going.

I don't fully understand the economics of streaming movies but the producers can justify the budgets if it gets a certain amount of views. Happy Gilmore 2 and the other Netflix Sandler movies are considered hits.

Matt Walsh just did a big thing on how pop culture peaked in 2007.

The last stand alone blockbuster that was a shock, was Maverick. Yeah it was a sequel but no one was gong to movies then ask of a sudden the movies were packed.
The mcu falling off and Star Wars sucking really messed up tentpoles. Avatar still will print money.

Hollywood lost creativity years ago, now it's mostly re-makes, shitty CGI, and woke story lines

A dude thinks pop culture peaked during his early 20s? Shocking.

I'm trying to think what the last great comedy was.
Of course Tropic Thunder. More recently Blockers was pretty funny and wild. The Other Guys was good. But feels like 20 years ago.

I'm trying to think recent comedies that were universally enjoyed and weren't tame.

One of the reasons people don’t go out to the theatre anymore is the downward spiral of society.

My wife and I went to the Springsteen movie last night. We enjoyed it but it’s a deep, kind of slow movie that features a strong story, script and acting over explosions and chase scenes. There were a group of six or seven teens who were ruining it for everyone. Talking, on their phones, and loudly burping every few minutes. Thankfully after 30 minutes they left but that kind of experience can ruin a movie for others and people just say “I’ll see it at home.”

I wouldn’t exactly classify it as recent since it came out in 2019, but Good Boys was very underrated in the raunchy comedy department.

I agree with your post but on the subject of wolverine , i thought Logan was fantastic and didnt feel like a typical superhero movie.. but that came out over 10 years ago

I have a job that allows me to kind of sneak out early during the summers to catch matinees. I used to do it often during the summers. I may do it once or twice a summer. Just nothing that gets me excited anymore.

Plenty to be found, but on cable tv. Hallmark Channel, Lifetime, and the Family Channel are pumping them out like a factory, especially the I Fell in Love with a Real Prince, and Unexpectedly Found Love At Christmas, Big City versus Small Town mismatches, and We Didn't Like Each Other At First Sight genres.

Last film I saw in a theater was Hit Man, and before that Dirty Grandpa (2016). Don't care for CGI, Superhero schlock or things-that-blowed-up-real-good.
