One can only hope.

It is not my thing and I have no problem with folks that like it. I would just like to see more dramas, thrillers, and good comedies.

I enjoyed a lot of it. Even up to things like Guardians 1 and Ragnarok. But it got really old. And it crowded out other "adult" films in a way I think no other "franchise" has mostly because of the sheer volume of films. Bond, Star Wars, Furious etc have far fewer releases.

And it's not necessarily MCU's "fault" but more of a sign of the times. I listen to the "Rewatchables" a lot (good podcast) and they always ask the question "could this movie be made today?"(without direct release to video, for better or worse)and very often the answer is no.

No Country for Old Men. There Will Be Blood. Heat. Pulp Fiction. Big Lebowski. Fargo.

When's the last time we had a big movie like that come across? "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" but that's because Tarantino is such a brand at this point.

I'm good with superhero movies too--the OG Superman movies (and IMO Superman Returns was the last decent Superman movie), Batman, etc when done well have their place.

I just thing the MCU was so over the top. Ant Man, Captain Marvel, Guardians 2, Black Widow--it's just too much.

I'm Gen X so I'm getting older so I try to temper my expectations.

Is being a Marvel fanboy somehow superior to being a DC fanboy? They seem equally pathetic to me.

As with CNN losing their formerly Chinese funded airport contracts, the CCP feels that because it now controls the White House, it doesn't need to continue pumping money into the American media entities that it controls.

Alas. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of child-molesting ghouls.

*Checks receipts…*

Well yeah, one is the definitive pop culture of the last decade and the other one is a footnote.

These two are far superior to your other examples.

Guardians 2 remains criminally underrated and is in the top tier of MCU projects.

Everyone I talked to irl enjoyed black widow. Y'all are some hyper-critical chumps. Internet echo chambers of misery.

I just want to remind people that comic book movies from all studios comprise approximately 2% of theatrical releases in a given year.

When you say it’s “too much”, I want you to keep that in mind.

That’s an internal matter really. They’ll sort that out in no time.

Maybe you missed the headline this morning?

Scarlett Johansson’s agent slams Disney for accusing ‘Black Widow’ star of disregarding public Covid risks

Scarlett must have just realized her 'death' means no more Marvel bucks. This is her retirement plan now. They will blow it up daily hoping Disney wants to settle, and keep it out of the media

Did you watch Loki?

Every OG Avenger will be back in the fold when The Russos so Secret Wars.

Gen X also...

I just remember when folks...holly wood folks, had original ideas and didn't just elaborate on an old trope. I appreciate your comment.

They'll be fine but these upcoming movies just don't look like anything special. It feels anticlimactic after Endgame.

To quote RLM, Endgame didn’t feel like the end of an arc or phase . It felt like the end of the story.

I feel like Evans and RDJ are making it pretty clear they moved on.

You're rapidly getting to the point where the OG stars are aging out of their roles, anyway. How much longer can Evans keep himself in dynamic shape and a youthful appearance? Remember, Cap doesn't age as fast. So when Evans looks like a middle aged man in red, white and blue the effect is lost despite however many doses of HGH/SARMS/roids he ingests. RDJ could get away with it longer, but even he was starting to look a tad long in the tooth at Endgame. The Les Miles hair dye job is going to be tougher and tougher to pull off. So I think the OG crew is bowing out at the right time.

As far as the MCU, it's not going to be the juggernaut it once was but it's still going to be a solid franchise going forward. The consistent quality they maintained through Endgame was remarkable. There weren't any whiffs. Not every entry was a home run but even the lesser movies were solid singles and doubles. That's truly amazing when you see what else Hollywood produces.

I read somewhere that ScarJO is worth in the neighborhood of about 160 million dollars. She's probably making good bank on residuals for her movies. She can afford to go after Disney because she doesn't have to work again and she can take one for the team to establish future ways contracts are being negotiated with same day releases online.

If you saw the Black Widow movie, you will see Nat's sister has been cued up to be the next Black Widow. ScaJo knows she's done and now wants some parting gifts.

Did anyone ever even really want a Black Widow movie?

I just finished my 1st run through all of the Marvel movies and have little to no interest in Black Widow.

It was a good action movie. Didn’t even feel like a MCU movie.

I mean, you can call her petty, but at the end of the day I can see where she's coming from.

The contracts were signed before Covid, it's an MCU film, it was supposed to come out over a year ago, and she expected this to follow the same model all prior films had.
We know Covid both delayed it a year, and still affected the box office take.

We also know Disney+ doing a stream of it impacted it bigtime; as apparently it streamed at least 1.1 million orders opening weekend, and over 2 mill for the first week and a half. Consider- this doesn't translate to individual box office tickets. There are lots of household with families (kids) who likely would have watched it in the theater (streaming for more than 2 people make it a bargain); there are also lots of people who had friends over, and/or share their Disney+ with other folks.

I haven't seen it, but I heard it was good and I probably would have by now. But I have Disney+, and will likely just wait until October to catch it.

This is her major issue. Disney straight refused to renegotiate her deal to include streaming sales. They did that even with Kevin Feige telling them it was a mistake and they needed to compensate her.

I have a feeling this is going to end up costing Bob Chapek his job as CEO. Now instead of working with actors, writers, directors, producers etc on a case by case basis to rework streaming deals they risk having a major precedent set by the courts and an avalanche of similar lawsuits tying them up in court for years. All b/c Chapek wanted to boost the Disney stock a tiny bit w/the BW streaming revenue to help cover his precious theme park losses.

There seems to be a lot going on with the MCU right now and it hasn’t really been positive.

1. Black Widow lawsuit
2. BW appearing to underperform
3. Appears to be no release of BW, Shang Chi, and The Eternals in China

Is this the start of Marvel fatigue or is it just a hiccup?

Might just be coincidences and doesn’t mean anything, but the MCU is looking more and more DC at the moment.

I am not as much into the movies as I used to be, and this is genuine curiosity.

I think there are two aspects to it:

1. Disney being Disney

2. SJW

Disney Being Disney:

While Disney is known for making fun, family movies and series, they are also known for being fairly ruthless when it comes to the business aspect. Part of this means they are going to do their damnedest to maximize profits even if it means delving into "creative accounting" and/or "create contract interpretation" (see: Robin Williams & Aladdin).

It seems this has finally leaked into the MCU.

SJW:

Anyone who has paid attention to Marvel's comics over the last 15 years has seen they are no strangers to diving deeply into the pool of Social Justice Rhetoric.

Disney hasn't been as strident in their pushing of social equity over the last 15+ years but they have certainly been ramping up lately. Ask Gina Carano or look at some of the Disney programming.

This trend from Disney is likely to do little more than add momentum to what has already been going on at Marvel to push the full weight of the social justice writings/characters into the MCU.
