Is Rogue One the second best Star Wars movie?

Empire goes without saying
But Rogue One is fricking good, man. Might be better than A New Hope.
It's definitely at least third.

No, it's no higher than third.
The third act is incredible, but there's a fair amount of "meh" in the first two acts.

It's not better than New Hope. That's just recency bias. It is definitely 4th best though, but I wouldn't even put it above ROJ. While it's great, it is missing that certain fantasy element that made the OT so epic.

Star Wars without Jedi is a fine line to walk. It can be incredibly boring if you don’t do it well. Mando is a good example of using the expanded universe without requiring that much Jedi lore. But it’s still there as a plot with baby yoda. Same with rogue one. It has just enough vader, force worshipers, and what not to be successful. Rogue one is a good movie. But Star Wars movies have an even higher ceiling than that. I really hope we continue to get more expanded universe content at a high quality like Mando and Rogue One.

In the top 4 for sure.
I also think because it ends where A New Hope begins is why it is thought of so highly.

No, and it’s for a simple reason: the entire first two acts are pointless. You can start at the beginning of the third act and perfectly understand everything that is going on.

Empire is 1
Rogue One is a tossup between 2 and 3 with New Hope

Rogue One is awesome. I'd put it third behind Empire and ANH.
I thought it was entertaining all the way through. At no point did I find it boring or pointless. Maybe I'm just a dullard?

Rogue One pissed me off when they cut that scene at the end that they kept showing in the trailer where Vader's tie fighter came right up to where they were before they died

My only issue with it is Forest Whitaker's character. One of the worst characters in recent years.

It's on par with the prequels at the bottom

I neednto Watch Rogue one but I have a hard time believing it’s better than A New Hope which launched all of this.
A New Hope is almost constantly underrated.
I think It’s underrated, and while everyone loves Empire, A New Hope works as a stand alone movie, obviously empire doesn’t.

baffling to me that people think Rogue One was a good movie. just goes to show how terrible SW is as a whole.

I know TFA had basically all the major plot points as a New Hope but I think it's vastly overrated and I think it suffers because the payoffs were so terrible in its sequels so it now makes it harder to enjoy as a stand alone film.
But I really enjoyed TFA when it first came out and thought it was a nice set-up for next round of films. But of course that all went down the toilet.

The correct rankings are as follows. And I say this as a lifelong Star Wars fan.
1) Empire
2-9) Whichever order you prefer.
10-11) The Last Jedi and Attack of the Clones. Also in whichever order you prefer.
