No. It wasn't. Sorry you've been conditioned to like formulaic crap. It's not your fault. It's Hollywood's.
You clearly didn't read the second part of my statement. At the time it was created, it was a solid film. The failure of the next two films, however, belatedly and retroactively hurt the quality of TFA.

isn't Kylo a pretty big part of the new Disneyworld/Disneyland rides? doubt they would retcon him out of the canon

The most recent trilogy destroyed my interest in future films. At first I wanted someone to do something like a proposed removal but if that were done then we'd have to suffer through more crap about fixing what should obviously need fixing.
It's just not worth it. It's now just a product that made Lucas a billionaire and Disney subsequently mismanaged.
The special nature of the product was mostly reliant upon the integrity of the central characters of the mythology. The damaged characters can't be adequately rehabilitated with a Patrick Duffy found alive in the shower rewrite.

I swore off paying for Star Wars after it was released.

Most people on this forum are way too young to get that reference.

Kathleen Kennedy must be pissed.

No way in hell. I hope this is true, but I think the foundation was set pretty well in TFA
You know what Disney likes more than virtue signaling? Money.
I keep telling my wife this with regards to the park restrictions Disney has right now. It’s all fine until it hits them in the pocketbook. And if people aren’t consuming the IP and if people aren’t going to the parks, you’ll be shocked at how quick Disney will change directions.
I mean is it really that hard to believe? RoS was 2 1/2 hours of JJ going “Yeah we get it. TLJ was awful. Our bad. Sorry we can’t fix everything, but here’s fixes for a bunch of stuff you guys said you hated. Sorry if it doesn’t make any sense.”

You can’t just erase history by taking down statu...wait, wrong thread

I’d be beyond shocked if Disney shite on the entire Abrams/Johnson trilogy. It’s one thing to retcon a tv show or small details in a film, but an entire trilogy?
It was a complete shite heap, but they’d be admitting they threw billions down the drain.

This is my take as well.
I saw TFA three times in the theater, with different people each time. I suspect there were many more like me that, in addition to just the excitement of something new from Star Wars, went back on at least a second rewatch. I remember reading just that in this forum when it came out.
Was it perfect? No. It was competent in what it set out to accomplish by introducing new and interesting characters. I didn't care for the overarching plot, meaning it wasn't very important to me during and afterwards. It was just a mechanism used to get the characters involved and on their way.
Not going to rehash the issues w/ TLJ, but I'll just say that at the time I was a big SW fan, saw TLJ on opening night and I haven't seen TROS yet. I'm just no longer interested in the story, and no longer have interest to see TFA again as a result.
If they can somehow retcon a good portion of TLJ, although I would look forward to it, cannot say that I'd be excited about it. Maybe my excitement would be reignited later, but that's how I feel right now.

They should just punt on the Skywalker saga and go make some SIMPLE STORIES WITH INTERESTING CHARACTERS in the old republic era or whatever they’re calling it now. Like what they’re doing with The Mandalorian.

“ In the Season 4 episode 13 installment titled 'A World Between Worlds,' the concept of the Veil of The Force was introduced, a mystical dimension of The Force that connects all time and space,"
So their solution is to double down yet again and continue to make this shite even MORE convoluted and disjointed than it already is.
Yeah, I agree. If Disney is ready to admit defeat, then just admit it upfront, and tell everyone that they are redoing the last trilogy. Don't try to throw in some crazy "Veil of The Force" crap that was part of a cartoon storyline.

Has there ever been film or films retconned before, much less anything of this scale?

Yeah. This isn't happening.

Have Big Dick Dave and Jon write out the whole trilogy and bring on someone like Brad Bird to film them and I’m in. Use The Mandalorian to feed into it.

Star Wars was always dumb and then it got dumber. This is like the third stage of dumb. They would be better off building an actual time machine to correct the problem.
