Well here we are. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is having sneak previews today with the official opening tomorrow.
This movie has been talked about incessantly for months but it feels like the talk has died down this week. Not a good sign for the box office this weekend.
Below I put the Box Office Pro projections for both the 3-day and 5-day.
Disney / Lucasfilm
June 30, 2023 (WIDE)
3-Day Opening Weekend Range: $60M-$77M
5-Day Opening Weekend Range: $80M-$103M
Do you think it will do better or worse than this? If worse, than Lucasfilm has ruined this IP forever. These projections are already low for a tentpole film like this. If it comes in under $60 million for the 3 day...heads must roll. Looking at you Kathy.
I looked at my local Cinemark site to see what the presales looked like today and tomorrow. The early evening shows were OK but had about 50% empty seats. The late shows were nearly unsold, just a smattering of seats.
For Friday, a couple of the Big screen shows were 50-60% sold but almost all the standard size screen showings were either completely green (unsold) or just had a handful of seats taken.
Not a promising start but we will see how it unfolds.
Of course, don't forget Disney's s secret weapon: The incredible Applebee's deal! Will it put them over the top?
Enjoy a delicious meal at Applebee's and experience Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny starring Harrison Ford. Spend $35 in one transaction, and you'll earn yourself a Free* Fandango Movie Ticket. Spend $70 or more for two free* tickets! Don’t miss out on this Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny promotion starting June 22. Dinner and a movie just got better.

I don't care how it does. I won't be going.

Collider headline
Collider - archived link because they don't deserve clicks
For comparison, So Low: A Disney Star Wars Box Office Story had a domestic opening weekend of $84 million.
Also, 84 million in 2019 dollars is 100 million in 2023 dollars.

Forgot all the "woke" shite for a minute...nobody wanted to see an 80 year old Indiana Jones. The time has come and gone. Let the series just die.

Very mediocre opening, huge drop the 2nd week. Given the outrageous budget will be yet another Disney mega-flop.
Box office bombs have historically been rare for Disney but over the last 5'ish years they've become commonplace. At this point they put out almost as many flops as hits.
The cupboard is bare at Disney. No leadership, very little talent, zero courage or ambition, all while aggressively pushing unpopular social mores. An unruinable brand completely ruined within a decade.

Raiders of the Lost Ark was the first movie I ever saw in a theater as a young kid. You couldn’t pay me to watch this POS

I think that's a common and legitimate opinion. If they had made a good movie I would have gone to see if in the theater.
We're at the point where so little gets made that I like? I'll go out of interest.
What I've heard about the plot makes me just want it to fail and Disney to have to course correct. Or just frick off if they refuse to make things I enjoy

Just got out. It was much better than the stupid crystal skull or whatever it was called but not as good as the first 3. At least it closed out ford playing him again (I think bc I wouldn’t put anything past disney).

I will not be eating at Applebee's and I will not be experiencing The Dialysis of Dysentery

Every thing I've read about this one makes me sad. But today I read that Disney now owns the National Geographic, and they got it when they bought some other media, and I think it's tragic that National Geographic is now controlled by Disney.

Was the showing you went to full? Or at least half full? Curious to see how the ticket sales are going.

Whether a movie does good or not does not affect my life one way or the other. Nookie does. I don't understand the obsession with a movie making money or not. Who cares?
