Even Variety is admitting this film is struggling.

Indiana Jones has begun his last box office crusade, with the fifth franchise entry earning $24 million on its opening day from 4,600 theaters. It’s a figure that includes $7.2 million in Thursday previews.
The release from Disney and Lucasfilm is expected to debut near the bottom of projections, with a three-day opening of $60 million or so. It’ll be more than enough for the Harrison Ford action-adventure film to land in the top spot on domestic charts, setting itself up to draw crowds through the Fourth of July holiday — but it’s not exactly the victorious tone-setter for one of the 20 or so most expensive blockbusters ever made. With a whopping $295 million production budget, “Indiana Jones 5” faces quite the trek to theatrical profitability.

The skies have been cloudy for “Dial of Destiny” for some weeks now, ever since the franchise finale made a splashy debut at the Cannes Film Festival and earned reviews that could kindly be described as mixed. After weathering that mediocre buzz for more than a month, the film has balanced out at a 58% approval rating from top critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

The first weekend box office for Indy 5 was $60 million. This was the minimum projection so bad news for Lucasfilm.
For comparison, here are the opening weekend takes for other recent films:
Indy 5 $60 million
Flash - $55 million
Elemental - $29.6 million
Transformers - $61 million
Spider Verse - $120 million
Little Mermaid - $95 million
Fast X - $67 million
Guardians - $118 million
Super Mario - $146 million (not an exact comparison as Mario opened on a Wednesday but this is their first friday-sunday numbers)
So this is not a good start for Indy 5. It is hanging with Transformers and Flash and that isn't a good place to be.
One positive: the film skews older and they usually take their time getting to the theater. But they better not wait too long as Mission Impossible is coming fast and that will take screens away.

That is a disaster for Disney.

got the Applebees deal, and I'm going with my daughter this weekend
It seems like sales at Applebee's are lower than originally hoped
FWIW I wonder how the studio, theaters, and Applebee's worked out the money thing?

Just to help out:
Indy 5 - good
Flash - bad, though Keaton was cool
Elemental - did not see
Transformers - did not see
Spider Verse - surprisingly good, better than the 1st
Little Mermaid - did not see
Fast X - awful, and I have low standards for FF movies
Guardians - really good, maybe better than GotG2
Super Mario - did not see

Nobody wants to go watch an 80 year old action star in a franchise that's been played out. Should have stopped after 3. Also, Hollywood has zero new movies. Everything's a sequel or remake these days. They are scared to greenlight anything new, becasue they are afraid to lose money, but continue to greenlight dead franchises that...lose money.

They had 22 showings yesterday at my local Cinemark. How long can theaters use up so many screens on a crap product?
Conversely, Spiderman had 4 and GotG had 1 showing.
