Imagine if studios diversified their budgets to spread out the money amongst more projects, allowing for new directing and acting opportunities that don’t require half a billion dollars to break even and build an audience’s relationships with those actors, writers, and directors by giving them more opportunities to experiment and fail and improve with fresh concepts instead of imprinting their light influence on some IP monstrosity with a sacred lore you cannot disturb.
Trying to break out of a slump by hitting grand slams when the way out may be to hit more single and doubles. Give the audience more reasons to go back to the theaters and take the small and medium wins and enjoy the lower risk, you’ll eventually hit something that’s gold and the ROI explodes. Lengthen the windows between theater and streaming and allow longer theater runs and less screen take overs by the blockbusters. Divert to lesser block busters but make those blockbusters be real swings (less cgi and more real effects and extras)
It won’t happen but it’s a nice thought

Thursday's sneak previews were $7.2 million.
For comparison, here are the sneak takes for other recent films:
Flash - $9.7 million
Elemental - $2.4 million
Transformers - $8.8 million
Spider Verse - $17.3 million
Little Mermaid - $10.3 million
Guardians - $17.5 million
Super Mario - $31.7 million (not really a sneak as they opened on a Wednesday)
So this is not a good start for Indy 5.

Yeesh, lower than Flash and Transformers. I mean other than just looking terrible, is there something holding this back? It's not supposed to be woke right? I don't see how it could not do better than Transformers. That looked like the biggest turd of all time and even though Ford needs to hang it up and the last Indiana Jones being terrible, it shouldn't do THAT bad.

No. But the spillover damage from Disney plus another Mary Sue to replace Luke leaves your traditional fans uninterested. And younger fans have no reason to care. The last passable IJ movie was 30 years ago

I have not yet read a review that says Ford takes a backseat. I have seen youtube idiots speculate as much, and you posters here giving such idiots credibility remains mystifying.
Idk why they want to downvote you. It is his movie. And I haven’t read anything about her taking it over.
A consistent thing ive read from people who watched it is the first 40 mins is really good, it can drag a bit in the middle, and the end was good. But also that opinions on the end may vary just because of how differently some people approach Indiana Jones/what they expect.
Indiana Jones is an odd franchise, where some people really just dont like some movies while others really do. Some people still don’t like Temple of Doom while others have it as their favorite. Most rankings I have seen so far place Dial of Destiny in the 2-4 range. Few have it as their worst Indy movie, so that gives me a little hope.

This is essentially what Netflix did, and to be fair I really like the Netflix originals

Then you don't know about the end of the movie.
FWIW most seem to think the first part of the movie was good but then it goes to the Kathleen female character trash mode.
Which is fine if there's an audience for it. I will personally take a pass.

It will do better than the projections, but it won't make the >$900 mil. it needs to make a profit. Not even close.
So, I expect a lot of contrived returns this weekend, whereas it will beat projections, after which it will drop off a cliff.
Early reviews say it's worse than Crystal Skull, though, so maybe I'm being optimistic.

I saw it.
It’s way better than Crystal Skull. So that’s one positive.

they must be advertising like mad because it seems every 3rd commercial on every channel has the dial of destiny movie teasers
Do any of the trailers make that lady character prominent?
Listened to the Film Threat review of this and boy does she sound awful.

Yeah the first like 2/3rds is pretty decent. The final act will have split opinions.

Deadpool/Wolverine might bomb because of the writers strike. No improvising from the actors and no rewriting a single line or they’ll be in breach. Sad because it’s a movie that might be entertaining otherwise.

Same formula. Kick the old white guy in the balls and kill him off and/or replace him with a strong wamyn. Same tired shite.
And it turns out, a lot of people don't want to give their money to people who hate them. Let Disney get their money from the CCP, because they're not getting it from the people who made that franchise a thing.

He's not in the backseat at all. He's in the lead the entire movie.

Indy rode off into the sunset in last crusade. That is the ending of the series for me.

Just saw it…. First 20 minutes is really pretty good.
The rest is just mediocre. Way too much CGI.
Like you can see potential but Disney does what they always do and don’t
give any respect to their characters.
