I think "For a Few Dollars More" is better than "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly".

Mainly because of how great the villain is, and probably because it has an actual villain in it.

Both great movies, but I prefer FFDM over TGBU.

Also Batman Begins is Nolan's best Batman movie.

What are some of y'all's unpopular opinions?

The plot of No Country For Old Men is awful, if not entirely void. That movie is enormously overrated solely by the acting and drawn out nature of the scenes within.

You just described every Cormac McCarthy story.

ETA: having said that, the prevailing attitude towards writing novels and short stories is that plot doesn't matter as much as the characters.

That's part of the reason why movie adaptations are so inferior and fail to translate the novel to screen. Movies need to focus more on plot and action instead of character building

FFDM is the best of that trilogy by a long shot. Best villain, tightest story, best ending.

I actually think Fistful is better than TGTBTU too.

TGTBTU is good but too bloated. A good 40 minutes could've been cut with no problems. This is Morricone's best work though.

The Big Lebowski is just a “meh” movie. Save for a couple scenes, it’s just not that funny. It also caused a whole generation to rag on a great band because a movie character “hates the frickin Eagles, man.”

Tried to watch Happy Gilmore recently. Turned it off. Wasn’t funny like it used to be. Billy Madison is superior.

The Big Bang Theory isn’t funny. The jokes are telegraphed from a mile away, the characters are too over the top. It’s a show written by people who know OF nerd culture but only enough to make fun of it.

Community was far superior, with really smart jokes, much better characters, and brilliant writing all around. It’s a show written BY nerds about nerd culture in a way that shows the humor in a reverent and IYKYK way.

I don't care for shows like The Shield or Breaking Bad, not because they're not well done but because every single character is a raging a-hole. It's just not entertaining to me to watch them screw each other over.

I watched True Romance this week due to the thread where people were calling it a top 5 movie for them..... I do not get it. Yeah, I liked the Walken and Gandolfini scenes, but the rest of the movie was just fine. Maybe I am too dumb to understand the genius of the gunfight scene, but I thought it was ridiculous.

Little Bill Daggett was just trying to keep the town safe, which he was hired to do.

Agree 100%.

Sopranos wasn’t far off with that either despite the quality of the work.

They even managed to make the minor characters in Soprano suck. I think I gave all 3 of those at least a season, maybe two, then just lost interest. I don't think I decided not to watch them, I just stopped.

Yellowstone pushed that line pretty far too but it's obviously not in the same class as those three from a quality perspective. I think the writer did 2 seasons then found another hobby.

I can appreciate art involving deep human tragedy or darkness as being “art”, I just don’t personally want to watch it unless it involves at a minimum a real attempt at redemption. Without the light the dark is too dark to appreciate.

In the Sopranos for example even the priest who should be an agent for positive transformation is converted into a source of lust by Carmella, which is a perfect example of the true depravity of these shows. Any light must be destroyed or subverted.

To me without highlighting the ability of humanity to transcend our sin it’s just a snapshot of “hell” and usually descends into what amounts to glorification of our darker traits and depravity.

The real world is plenty depressing without bringing that into my entertainment.

It’s tough not to wonder about why so much of what’s amplified in our entertainment amounts to a glorification of darkness rather than an appeal to the light.
