Honestly I think boards like this one and the internet in general getting injected into the mainstream probably played a huge part here.

Free folk on Reddit was tons of fun during and after the leaks. Bobby B was top tier memes.

Part of this is on GRRM though. Great world builder, shite storyteller.

As much as he likes to kill characters, some won't stay dead (Lady Stoneheart) or are fakeouts (Mance Rayder). And of course, there's the mysterious blue-haired kid who is likely to be a Targaryen.

If he ever does finish the books, I don't have any confidence that they'll be any better than the show.

will defend the Battle of Winterfell though, I'm sorry, that was a bad arse battle

Even that was unrealistic. You mean to tell me Jorah Mormont who was a complete badass gets killed but Samwells fat arse manages to survive the fight? Oh and Theon who regularly gets his arse kicked all of a sudden is an epic warrior fighting off dozens of wights by himself. Yea, ok

I disagree on the storyteller part. I'll hate on him as much as anybody for being lazy and I don't think he'll ever finish the books, but what he has put out so far, has been a great story.

So Dany comes to save the day and they are making a perfectly fine get away on the dragon, but Jon inexplicably decides that he doesn't need to get on the dragon and get away but wants to be a hero and kill just a few more inconsequential wights that would have made no difference at all. If he would have just got on with everyone else, they could have presumably flown away safely. But no, he stalls Dany/everyone to kill a few more so in the mean time the Knight King can ice javelin a dragon down and give him the dragon they need to get past the wall.

So this episode is also where I was like "I'm out". And if I remember correctly Jon doesn't get on the dragon because he sees the Night King so decides to try and get to him and ends up having to fight all the walkers in the way. I immediately thought HAVE DANY DIRECT DRAGON FIRE AT HIM. HES RIGHT frickING THERE!

No instead he wants to fight 100 dead people while going uphill, when he could've gotten on the dragon, told dany to have the dragon look slightly right, and end the whole God damned thing.

See, now I'm emotional too

Jon coming back from the dead meant nothing. He came back to scream at a dead blue dragon? We never get why the Night King was doing what he was doing, really. The Children made him, but that's not enough explanation. Sansa gets to say the North isn't part of the 7 kingdoms, but still lets Jon get sent away.

Jon saved the entire kingdom in multiple ways yet gets sent to shitville wall with no hoes.

Jaime went through all that evolution and development only to die in a rock pile not really accomplishing much.

Also what was the point of the Nights Watch after all that anyway? The army of the dead are gone and the wildlings are living south of the wall now

rumor is GRRM told them how the story ends with Bran on the throne but it was up to D&D to get there.

The reason I find this hard to believe is that Bran being made king in the show did not seem in any way planned or set up. Not even in the final couple episodes or even the finale until the final scene.

Had he told them that was the end, they surely would have made him more of an emphasis towards the end. I’m not sure when this supposedly would’ve happened but I guess it would’ve had to have happened after they did an entire season without that character on the show at all

He really feels like a left over puzzle piece that they were like “oh yeah he could work I guess. Whatever, let’s go buy markers for our Star Wars story boards”

I watched a youtube video the other day, it may have been posted in one of these threads, that explained that with just a basic knowledge of defending a castle strategy, with the armies they had, they should have been able to do a better job and maybe even beat the dead people army.

Their strategy was basically just wrong at every step.

Yea I was holding off on the things that piss me off about the finale because they are almost too many to count. Go be part of the Nights Watch that doesn't exist anymore and guard a wall that is broken and that doesn't need protecting anyway.

And Tormund and the wildlings/the others that went north of the wall with Jon went for what reason? Just out of love for Jon? Their whole goal was to get back lands that were taken from them and to be south of the wall because the living conditions are obviously much much better even if you don't factor in the not having an army of the dead anymore. But in the end, they're just like, ok, let's go live beyond the wall, that's home for us.

I guess it’s basically just being used for the purpose it had been being used for for centuries:

A place to send people they don’t want around, but don’t want to kill or deal with the hassle of keeping them in prison.
