Nah, the swerve isn't that bad. Arya was an unwitting servant of the Many Faced God sent to kill the Night King, who represents undeath.

Problem is that the fat frick just told D&D that Arya kills the Night King with zero explanation.

First off I’m not even sure if there’s an actual Night King in the books and actually doubt his existence. Maybe he existed or will come to exist (which would be either Stannis or Euron), but there’s absolutely no evidence in the book that the Night King we see on the show exists. I’m more thinking that the Three Eyed Crow is responsible for the White Walkers re-emerging since they started showing up the moment Bloodraven disappears beyond the Wall and there is something horribly wrong with where Bran is in the books.

Secondly no Arya isn’t going to kill the Night King and defeat the Others (what you know as the White Walkers) in the books. The books and the show (at least until the moment Dumb And Dumber kind of forgot) revolve around the Azor Ahai prophesy. Arya does not fit the prophesy whatsoever and GRRM isn’t just going to throw out the prophesy like those two idiots did. But Dumb and Dumber said that Melisandre once said blue eyes so we foreshadowed it is complete bullshite. I guess that overshadows the 5,000 times she talked about Azor Ahai in those idiots minds.

What an abomination that episode was. I was watching it with a bunch of people who acted like it was the greatest thing of all time and I was just like wtf that was so terrible nothing about that was good

like the idea of Dany burning down King’s Landing as the end, but they didn’t set it up within the show nor did it make sense when executed.

She was always going to burn it down. I don't know how anyone could not think that was coming but the set up and delivery of it was completely idiotic and bad

It never crossed my mind until the final season that Dany would burn it down, but it definitely crossed my mind that Cersei might.

Same.

It shouldn't have crossed anyone's mind until the final season just based on what they were doing with the character. She could be brutal but so could everyone else in the show.

George needed to write faster, and not play with his little toys out in his yard, or making grand public appearances.

He could also ignore the HBO crap, finish his damn book, and start on the new material too. But he's a hack, so he won't.

Yes. I said it. He's a hack.

I think that’s a popular opinion at this point. He’s made it. He’s rich now and clearly doesn’t give two shits about finishing the story. He’s written other things though, including some extra stuff for the world the series is in. But the reminder of the books can go frick off for all he cares.

Jaime without his good hand, there's an argument that he could channel all his skill into a one-time event. But otherwise, he's still barely above competent.

I always wondered if they gave Jaime a fake hand why couldn't they just make it a kung fu grip hand so he could hold his sword. Every time he fought I would wonder why it wasn't like that.

If you’re wondering that, then you don’t understand swords.

It's still his dominant hand/arm. He could have then learned to fight with 2 swords instead of always getting his arse kicked.

He did beat Euron though so there's that.

Ummmm, no. He lost his dominant hand. You’re just wrong.

The hand he lost was his dominant hand. All I was saying is if they made a fake hand I wanted it to be able to hold a sword, so he could learn to fight with both. Calm down man

Tell that to anyone that knows anything about sword fighting. Let’s chop off Tiger Woods’ right hand and then demand him to be of that caliber again.

I definitely understand what you are saying, but I'm not thinking of it in real life terms. I'm thinking of his character saying give me a fake hand that can hold a sword.

Anyway, didn't mean to derail. I don't think GRRM will finish the books. It will have to be someone else if it happens.

I read all the sample chapters today because of this thread. Euron and Victarian are some scary dudes.

The guy is a sellout. Once his big HBO paychecks started rolling in he quickly showed his true motivation for writing.

Leadership.

After his hand is taken, he learns to be a real leader - as opposed to someone who immediately reacts with his sword and superior skill.

The books do a great job giving his character depth, while showing his growth as a leader.
The books also emphasize how he could always fight and move without really Thinking. He just knew how to fight. When he was learning to fight with his left hand, the split second he had to waste thinking about his next move, resulted in him losing the match.

(In addition to what the other posters said about how it makes no sense for him to regain his skill by attaching a king-fu grip sword hand).

You'd think Martin made progress being homebound due to covid for over a year

1)he’s an emotional snowflake that crumbles out of work over the slightest thing. I remember one time he took six months off of writing because the Jets lost a playoff game.

2)what little work he did do, wasn’t on GOT. He works on side novels or other projects.

Yeah, a third of us were saying it, but most were saying it was epic with Arya killing the Night King and “Best Episode Eva!” I wasn’t alone, but we were shite on by the majority, and then two episodes later everyone was “yeah, y’all were right. Sorry for doubting y’all.”

I didn’t like the way they beat the Others and how Arya got to where she was but I didn’t hate the episode.

The issue with the season is they did it backwards, they should’ve gone and attacked King’s Landing first and then dealt with the Others. After they defeated the worldwide threat to end humanity the whole rest of the storylines seemed pointless.

Go to KL first, figure out Dany is crazy, have all that stuff, kill Cersei and that, then finish with the Others. But then they wouldn’t have had dragons fighting Walkers and that’s all they really cared about I guess
