I missed this. Which episode, so I can go back and see it.

Episode one @ 57:03

If you start a couple of minutes before that you can see Galadriel and all the meteor scenes and then the corrupted leaf fall. They are all tied together temporally and scream this is something bad happening at least to me.

Told you this show would suck.
Told you WHY it would suck.
Now that it sucks, and even worse than most anyone imagined, some STILL want to blindly declare 'it's not that bad' or some such, out of a horribly misplaced need to stick with it.

The beatings will continue.

Tolkien’s work is as great as ever. More people are reading and discussing it now than a year ago, because of this show.

Yes, because it’s an abomination to the works and lore. I’m not watching it, but yeah I’m talking about it. Like Mithril being used to retain elvish immortality. They just pulled that straight out of their arse.

Really seems like some folks just want to troll. I've seen a lot of negative threads on movies and series, but I've never seen them where people attack those who watch or want to.

If/when someone said they enjoyed the new Star Wars, they didn't get personally attacked. Hell, I thought TFA was stupidly set up to begin with, thought it had a ton of holes and disregarded the original trilogy... I bitched about the movie. If someone said they liked it, I would personally disagree with them, but wouldn't insult them.

This board is set up for people to discuss stuff. I have zero issue with OML's constant fascination for Avatar cartoon stuff, but have zero desire to ever watch it myself. I don't frick with him about it. I don't frick with people who liked TFA, despite being heavily invested in the franchise to that point. I think it's just an a-hole thing to do, and I don't have any desire to be an a-hole to people just to do it.

This show is Jeff Bezos' baby, he wants to make it and has the money to do so. It's going to get the full five seasons, no matter if people bitch or not. I guarantee nobody's dropping Amazon Prime over it, there's too much beyond streaming to keep the service.
I like the property, and it's the only way we're going to see it live for the foreseeable future. I'd rather watch something that's half-correct, than watch nothing new in the property. I will continue to hope they get things right, and I really wouldn't mind discussing it with others who are watching it. But if that discussion gets shouted down, I will watch and not chat, and just generally think 'screw that guy, he's an overbearing dickhead who can't leave others alone'. They might think they're being cool, but I put them in the same category as, say, cajunbama on the SEC rant.

No, they didn't...

The Elves were stated to be fading, the Rings were the only thing that kept them from doing so. That was the big reason the Rings were important, and why losing the One Ring was such a bittersweet victory. They saved Middle Earth, but not for themselves.

Using Mithril is a bit overly dramatic, I really think the 'we have 6 months to do this' is the bigger issue.
But they're using it to both tie in the importance of the Dwarves at Khazad Dum to this, and to set the stage for the forging of the Rings (the alternative they settle on).
I think it's using the concept that mithril is a special element with unique properties, but we're going to have difficulty harnessing it- can't just line everyone up for mithril shots.

And, they're going to have to establish why the Rings/prevention of fading is a one-shot try; why they can't just try it again after vanquishing Sauron. Why they must either return to Valinor, or else disappear to the shadows if they stay. Elrond, Cirdan and Galadriel etc must truly have no further hope of maintaining and restoring what they have. Rivendell, Lorien and Lindon are far from Gondor, the only kingdom of Men capable of giving them headaches, and they're allied with them anyway. And they finally don't have a valid enemy, they're free to live and work in peace. But we know, they're done.

That’s exactly what I did.

Don’t be such a slave to anything or company that you can’t walk away from it.

If we do nothing and just allow them to believe this is OK, then they will keep doing this.

Without respect we reject

Mithril has zero to do with the light of the Silmaril.

Totally unrelated.

And the light of the Eldar again is totally unrelated to either of those things.

Because we care about the authors work? Or that we are tired of seeing this garbage happening over and over again to establish properties?

I’m very proud to stand up against this hapless treatment of great works.

What if the origin story of mithril is just an apocryphal legend, just like mithril being able to save the elves?

It could be just the impetus to convince Durin III to return to mining and ultimately release the Balrog which we heard announce his presence during the cave in.

Tolkien probably wouldn't like this series that much, but would also think you're a fricking loser

Is there anyone left who could have forged a ring of power at that point? Also, the elves seemed to know at that point that the new age was to be the age of men.
