Hunt for Red October for me. Crimson tide is too unrealistic of a scenario for me. Obviously both are Hollywood stories but CT is a little too much for me

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE BOOK VERSION OF HUNT.

Red October by a mile. Tom Clancy knows naval warfare and it shows (read Red Storm Rising for even better submarine warfare). Great sub story. Crimson Tide merely took place on a sub.

CT has the more intense character battle between Hackman and Denzel and seeing those two go at it is gold every time. The sub stuff was just a vehicle to deliver it. I found the concept of the movie interesting personally. it could have taken place in a missile silo though.

Red October is a kickass sub movie.

The script in October was pretty bad but it was a fun as shite movie to watch.

It has a Top Gun feel IMO. That doesn't mean I don't love it because I do.

That being said Das Boot is still the underwater boat movie for me. It is the one I get the most stress from. If you have a subwoofer system that is seriously capable the SFX are incredible. Unfortunately few home systems can do the movie justice.

From this point on there would be a dead body in the freezer (the exact same freezer that all the food is in), and no one talks about it.

Happened on our boat on our way to a Med run. A Senior Chief Nav ET had a heart attack and died in the middle of the Atlantic. We wrapped him in terry cloth and then plastic wrap and put him in the freezer for 3 days. It was tight cuz we just loaded groceries. We had to drop him off in Rota Spain. This was early 90's. Maybe protocols have changed since then.

I don’t think so, where else do you put a body? If you map the CT universe onto the real one though, I think the other at sea Ohio’s have coverage while the Alabama flanks it back to port to dump the body and repair the galley [seriously, if a piece of galley equipment gets knocked out your deployment range shrinks from months to weeks if not days, cans of flour are useless with no oven]

Red October score - Basil Poledouris, 'nuf said.

But, Crimson Tide -Hans Zimmer - makes use of "Eternal Father, Strong To Save".

Gotta go with Red October.

Red October. I love Denzel and Hackman, but Red October was better.

Agreed. Haven't watched CT since the first time. Not to say CT sucked, but it's Oct by a mile.

I’ll be honest, years ago when I first saw Crimson Tide and realized it was the USS Alabama, I was already skeptical. Then they all said, ”Roll Tide!”

Ugh. Still a good movie.

I like October much better.
