“Most things in here do not react too well with bullets”
— Mostsh shings in heeah, don't react too well to bulletsh

And what does that translate to in English?

these two are great throughout the movie...I still use "perhaps" in response to whenever somebody uses it in a question; including once accidentally with our CFO who gave me a snide look and I had to explain...luckily he was a fan as well and laughed it off, my boss was none too pleased he called be buckaroo for awhile afterwards

Crimson Tide is a decent movie and this thread actually makes me want to do a rewatch but come on, how does anyone compare it Red October?

OCTOBER by a mile. However as a Bama fan I did appreciate a Roll Tide as the movie started. I also always thought OCTOBER was based on a real story of a Russian sub that went off the rails.

Wiki

This is the closest story, Soviet submarine sunk well away from where the Soviet fleet was looking for them.

Red October by a Mile. I liked CT, but it's doesn't register on my list of great movies. October is in my top 20 all time favorite list for sure.

October is definitely more of a cerebral movie I think and much more believable than CT.

So many good quotes too.

"Russians dont take a dump, son, without a plan."

"I'm a politician, which mean when I'm not kissing babies I'm stealing their lolly pops."

To name a few not already mentioned.

Richard Jordan was money in that role.

Absolutely.

Plus, October was written by Tom fricking Clancy. Dude is a legend. I wish they turned more of his books to movies.

HFRO was the closest Hollywood got to keeping to the book. Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger changed too much, The Sum of All Fears wrecked the villains, and Without Remorse barely followed the original plot at all.

True, but I enjoyed them all except without remorse, I haven't seen it actually. Need to watch that.

Another thought on the inspiration was a mutiny that occurred on a Russian ship.

God bless Richard Jordan. Taken way too soon.

Give the guy a small part (Duncan Idaho) and he adds the world to your movie.

Red October might be one of my all time favorites. My wife thinks i call AMC to program Red October to come on every week.

That being said, as good as the movie is, it is very different from the book. Ramsay seems to be a much different character in the book than how Connery portrays him. Not to mention, the book is more believable, and very complex.

But you are correct, HFRO is closest to the book than the other movies.

FWIW, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger are probably in my top 15 movies as well. Anytime any of the original 3 Clancy movies are on, i watch them, much to my wife's chagrin.

Agree 1000%. I enjoyed both the movie and the book. But I saw the movie before I read the book...if I read the book first, I may have been disappointed by the movie...although I still enjoy watching the movie.

I saw the movie before I read the book and cannot unsee Connery, Baldwin, and Glenn as Ramius, Ryan, and Mancuso.
