Hunt for Red October vs Crimson Tide

Both movies have great actors. Sean Connery, Scott Glen, Sam O'Neill, James E Jones, Denzel Washington, Gene Hackman, Viggo Mortensen, James Gandolfini, Rick Schroder, etc.
Both movies are great but I liked Crimson Tide best. Gene and Denzel made a great duo. What does the movie board say?

Yeah, agree. The shouting match between Denzel and Gene is priceless.

Crimson tide
Denzel vs Hackman.
Not sure it’s possible to get better than that

Why not both
Agree. I've always been a fan of submarines and love both movies but Crimson is a class above Red October.
I forgot about U571. Good movie as well.

Both good but prefer Red October slightly. Scott Glenn is underrated as well.

The script in October was pretty bad but it was a fun as shite movie to watch. And that Russian music just set the mood perfectly.
October for me.
October for me.

Red October is a top 5 movie for me.
Crimson Tide is good, but it doesn't even make the list of great movies for me.

Red October is more...well, 3 Days of the Condor on a bigger scale.
Crimson Tide is Cage-worthy in script. Which some like more. But October is penned from a best-selling book by a best-selling author... Who by most accounts, does his research.
Crimson Tide is actor Hollywood vehicle driven...where the story is secondary.
I mean as much as we love Sean Connery, the movie and story could've been played by others. The ego actor conflict is everything in Crimson Tide because the story is small.

Submarine vet perspective: Red October by a mile (nearly universally held opinion among sub guys).
Interestingly, the reasons we all hate on Tide don’t even add much to the movie:
(1) The scene where the supply officer “drops” an enlisted sailor really misses the mark on sub culture.
(2) The mess cook dying during the kitchen fire. From this point on there would be a dead body in the freezer (the exact same freezer that all the food is in), and no one talks about it.
(3) Not to mention the XO (Denzel) putting out the fire himself, making the other 100+ trained enlisted guys look like idiots. (Anyone on that boat that was assigned there for more than 6 months would have known where that remote halon switch is).
Tony Scott lost support of the Navy half way through developing the movie and it shows.

Hunt for Red October by way more than a mile, better script, better action, better conflict, better direction.
Crimson Tide is not even rewatchable.

Red October has Alec Baldwin - well before he went his murder spree.

THFRO is a Shawshank/Roadhouse movie that must be watched if it is on.
