the closet pedos on here who are bummed about underaged looking milly leaving must be real happy about Alicent's daughter Helaena stepping in.

I enjoyed the episode and am pretty happy with the new actors, especially Alicent.

The Targaryen kids are creepy and the Valeryon kids a lot more likeable/normal -- more reason for Alicent to resent Rhaenyra. I do want to see more of the daughter and her prophecies.

Rhaenyra continues to be a badass, insisting on dragging her postpartum self to see Alicent because "frick you that's why".

I was sorry to see Laena go, though she chose a hell of a way to bow out. The interplay between her and Vhagar was great. She and Daemon seemed pretty good together despite their disagreements.

Hate Alicent and Criston. He should die a hideous death. I do appreciate the writing and acting that allow a character to go from loved to hated so fully and quickly.

Horrified by the creepy evil of Larys. He is worse than Varys or Littlefinger by a good bit, imo.

I mean, it's clear that Laena wanted to die the way she did as it was customary for a dragon rider to die by fire.

Did this come directly from the show or do you know that’s the tradition from the books?

Just curious because that scene makes a lot more sense to me now if that’s the custom for dragon riders. I heard her say something earlier to Daemon about wanting to “die a dragon rider’s death” but the connection to her death later in the episode wasn’t immediately clear to me.

It was a real “wtf” moment for me in the episode but maybe there was another reference I just missed.

Viserys told Strong that he’d served the realm for many years. 10 as hand.

That’s the other one I remember

Rewatching now.

Leanor complains that he’s been playing his role for 10 years since they got married.

The queen says it has been 10 years since Daemon left the step stones undefended.

The king tells his hand he’s been a faithful hand for 10 years.

Hopefully that was enough for the viewers to grasp how long the time jump was!

for those wondering, there is one more final time skip left to go which ages up these kids (i believe starting in episode 8) and sets the stage for the 'main event' which is what these first few episodes have been building towards.

I believe that poster was referring to being burned after dying, which is what the Targaryens do.

There is no other suicide via dragon that I can recall in the books.

I heard the 10 year/decade reference you mention about 3 times minimum that episode.

This isn’t always the case, look at the Baratheon’s for instance. That whole house started as a bastard that was legitimized. In this world, power determines who sits on the throne, and an allegiance of Rhaenyra’s and Allicent’s families would be the most powerful in the realm. Allicent isn’t being motivated by righteousness, she’s being motivated by power.

Exactly, the Blackfyre Rebellion occurred not because they were bastards, but because the king ended up legitimizing them on his deathbed.

That was some serious, hardcore pedo psychological projection right there.

True. And book Laena died a few days after giving a stillbirth, though not before she was injured and tried to ride her dragon.

What I meant was, there is long evidence of Targaryens (Laena is just as much Targaryen as she is Velayron) dying by fire. Dany hatching her eggs was something incredibly magical that went beyond her last name.

Yeah, much better than having the viewers try to interpret the ambiguous ages of a bunch of children.

Oh so you're pivoting from "they didn't mention it and I had to think for once"

To ignoring that they mentioned it several times, but still bitching about being expected to notice large time jumps

In my first message I literally said, "Maybe I missed it"

Clearly other people missed it too if they had to do a rewatch to point out all the times it was mentioned.

There are fricking Hodors that would miss it if the show literally had a 10 second black screen with white text that read “10 years in the future” at the beginning of the episode.

I thought changing the changing actresses also made it pretty clear. Along with all the dialogue and the kids of course. I'm not sure how this is a discussion point

I think the Queen realizes Strong was a good Hand of the King and was on her side. She was probably more shocked by his murder than the other one.

The discussion wasn't whether people would realize there was a time jump without specific dialogue, it was how would viewers know how long the time jump was.

But as other posters have mentioned, there was specific dialogue that I missed that clarified how much time had passed between episodes.

We are over halfway through and we are still watching passive aggressive positioning and nothing else. Then you have mostly annoying characters and no one to really enjoy watching. No humor. No one likable. I’ll be honest… I’m bored.
