Not either of these franchises, but if you like the somewhat over the top solo shooter movies, "Nobody" with Bob Odenkirk is incredible. Truly one of the funnest movies I've ever watched.

I know they're shooting with a second one soon. I'm hoping they turn that into a trilogy as well, I just hope Odenkirk's able to continue shooting them with his health problems.

ETA: The first equalizer is my favorite movie among either of these franchises.

Equalizer 3 was awful. At no point was he threatened. He just kicked everyone’s arse all movie. He was essentially Superman on vacation in Italy.

This, that movie was pretty mediocre. The first Equalizer was great, and the second was solid, but neither are as good as the first John Wick.

I’ve always preferred it to John wick tbh. Every John Wick eventually puts me to sleep, except for the first one. there was actually a bit of a story, and character development, before the monotonous fight scenes. The sequels are just a bore.

The larger John Wick universe with the whole assassin subculture having their own chain of hotels and chain of management elevates this series for me. Its something unique rather than just being set in the real world.
As deadly as most of their culture is, it's like watching vampires going against one another. They're all killers. Wick isn't killing for the greater good like The Equalizer. He's out for revenge.

I liked the first Equalizer, but the character is too nice. They try to develop his old universe is the 2nd movie and fail, because none of his old cohorts interested me. Not the ones that went bad or the one's he got help from.

I still want a Peter Quinn movie that's kind of a prequel to Homeland.

You're a moron who has awful taste. John Wick shits all over Equalizer, especially the first John Wick. On one hand you have Keanu actually performing some of the best action scenes Hollywood has ever seen, and on the other hand you have fat Denzel with shitty choreography. I wish I had more than one downvote to give you.

Can't stand Denzel Washington so have never watched a minute of any Equalizer movie.

JW1 is the best of the four films. After 1 they just get more outlandish. I can watch and enjoy them but they are so over the top at points it's simply ridiculous.

Better plot for sure and of course the lead is a much better actor.

Denzel is obviously one of the greats but I've always that Keanu was one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood.

I get what you’re saying. But with the John Wick movies, if the first one isn’t for you they only get more and more ridiculous and over the top and you are gonna hate each one more and more. I’ve recently watched all four Wicks for the first time, and so far have only seen the first Equalizer. The Wicks weren’t really my jam. I enjoyed them well enough for what they are, but the over the topness was a lot to handle. I won’t say either is better yet, since I still have two more Equalizers to watch, but I can easily see why someone would prefer those to the Wick franchise.

Same for me. Which is why I stopped caring more and more with the over the top FF movies

The Wick movies, technically, are great. That's why I said they are fine for what they are. The actual movie/plot isn't very good IMO, or is at least overly ridiculous way past the point of absurdity.

If you consider John Wick to be absurd, you should've fallen off the couch laughing at 70 year old Denzel running through a rooms of gangsters. The Wick movies are supposed to be over the top and leans into the absurd. The Equalizer movies are paint by numbers action movies that take themselves too seriously. A little levity goes a long way when sitting through a movie that doesn't get any deeper than bad guys bad, good guys good.

With its sloppy editing The Equalizer was at least 20 minutes too long. Denzel couldn't hide his beer gut enough to make the fight scenes plausible. The Equalizer had the feel of a USA Networks movie for TV.

John Wick was tight. It's in a different league.

I wasn’t arguing that the Equalizer series is better. I even said I’ve only seen the first one.

I liked it fine but it was nothing special really. And honestly it felt like Denzel was a little too God-mode for my liking. Like he had everything go off without a hitch over and over. I need to watch the 2nd and 3rd for a fair comparison. I was imply saying that the Wick movies weren’t really my thing.

If you like these types of movies then Payback is a good movie to watch. Mel Gibson doing his thing.

Yeah just watched 3rd equalizer...didn't really care for it

Might have not been great but saw John wick 4 in the Theater and that was a steaming pile of crap. Guys just lining up so they could get shot by wick with limitless bullets, Wick jumping out of 5 story buildings and here's the clincher Blind guy that could be a sniper by the end of the movie. Pure comedy by the end.

Somehow just watched Equalizer 1 for the first time last night. Despite an overly tired storyline (bad Russian mobsters), Denzel is so good it was very entertaining. Looking forward to the next two…

I actually agree with this take. John Wick has been red hot shite since the first film. Ive fallen asleep during 2. Somehow made it thru the forth and was wishing Wick would have domed me too when it was over.
