Possible unpopular opinion, The Wire. Season 1 was amazing. Season 2 sucked. Seasons 3-5 were amazing

Writers strike year produced a lot of options. Scrubs had a 'meh' season 6 and bad season 7 that was just a mess due to the strike, but a fantastic 8 closed out the show. (Yes, we're ignoring the spin off)

According to this board, Breaking Bad before and after "The Fly".

Friday Night Lights is the first that comes to mind. Great S1, S2 was garbage (strike writers for some reason thought it was a good idea to throw in a murder), S3-5 back to great.

Those dream-sequence seasons on the Sopranos were not the best tv I've ever seen.

Seinfeld definitely had a brief lull.

West wing was meh for a couple of seasons after first 3 seasons, but I really liked the last season.

I don't know if Mad Men had good seasons and then bad seasons.

They just ran 4 to 5 God awful episodes in a row right before a few mind blowing episodes that made the wait worth it with the payoff.

It was the major league baseball of binge dramas (162 games per season. 7 season career).

I do recall the original dexter having God awful seasons (you need a quality bad guy in that show. Some were hit or miss).

Frasier had a Godawful season when they paired him up with Felicity Huffman. Thank goodness they repaired the damage quickly with the next season.

I agree if we include the movie as part of the show. The movie was a good way to end the story. The show ending sucked.

True Detective was a good answer too, although each season is its own thing.

I kind of liked the new Dexter. If that counts.

I think Dexter counts.

Season 1-4 - Amazing television. Season 4 is my all time favorite season of any TV show.
Season 5-6 - Kind of meh but not awful
Season 7-8 - Absolutely awful
New Blood - I liked seeing Dexter after the original series. It was only 1 season but I really enjoyed it.

I wouldn't include this one for the simple fact that a down season of The West Wing is still excellent TV. I don't think it has a single season that could fall into the bad category.
