I'm largely with you guys on Snape, it makes very little sense for THAT character to be race swapped. It has extremely extensive consequences
I really haven't seen anything saying the story is being changed in any appreciable way. Point me in that direction

It’s in the HBO behind the scenes stuff or if you just type in a broad search of changes and additions to the story you’ll see they’re adding stuff from “new novels” and other things.

I didn't know there were any other novels
I don't mind minor scene additions to flesh out certain characters or something. Sometimes its needed in an 8 episode season, especially when there is much less meat on the bone in the first 2 books. And sometimes things are tweaked because they don't work well on screen
But I do mind fundamental changes to character or scene

That’s coming too. They’re going to create the lore behind Magic, it’ll be based on environmental activism. They’ve said they’re altering other cannon, creating parallel stories and character interactions that never took place. You can find most of this in articles online but there’s so much potter news out there it’s a chore. Easiest way to see it is to just watch the HBO Max behind the scenes doc. It’s all there.

It just looks so generic and the kids all look like AI or the kids you see in picture frames for sale at the drug store.

I feel like the only people with a negative reaction to the trailer are the ones who decided they were going to hate it the minute it was announced that Snape was cast.

I’m hoping for 7 seasons (one for each book). As a Harry Potter nerd who’s read all the books several times, I’m more excited for the later books past 2. Honestly, the plot of the 1st two books is simple enough that a move did it justice and didn’t really leave anything important out. Books 3-7, the movies are lacking so much material

The snape casting is an ALL TIME casting fumble. I just can't get over it. The movie casting was as good as it could be.

I had seen all of them when my kids were young but didn’t really get that into them like I did with other movie series. Never read the books.
Rewatched the first movie last night and was a tad surprised at how “old” it felt. I’m guessing the first was a bit lower budget than later ones. If they don’t go off the rails aside from the few bad casting choices, I can see it being good with today’s production standards.

Yea the first one is distinctly different in a lot of areas. It did its job, hooked the kids but the acting the CG, all by far the most inferior of the series.

It looks great. I don’t get the Snape race swap due to the backstory now having new layers as been stated ad nauseam. I think if it was that important basically ANY major character would’ve made more sense even dumbledore.

We usually do the rewatch every Thanksgiving Holliday. Thats the one we’ll just put on before anybody’s really ready to sit and watch.
