Who is this for? Sure sems like it's just the movie win miniseries form with some let's say controversial decisions.

I choose to ignore the casting decisions

I'm more interested in the story telling and what they can add to these series that the movies never delved into

Yeah but when adaptations start adding new material rarely is for the better

Fans of the books think the movies cut out way way too much, which of course they did because they have to, they are movies

So this is supposed to be a much truer adaptation with the cast being more age accurate

Most of the casting for this has been absolutely great, except for the one notable example, that fundamentally changes how certain scenes and entire character arcs can be perceived, making that particular casting all the more bizarre

I don't think they are adding "new things". Very large sections of books were left out of the movies, apparently, because...they are movies and don't have time for everything

Will get plenty of viewership simply because of what it is.

Fans will definitely be intrigued by how much deeper a series can dig vs. a 2.5 hour film.

Race swapping for the sake of race swapping is moronic. And it sort of casts a shadow on the whole "mudblood" thing. I thought it was one of the more poignant aspects of the HP story that Hermione (a white girl) faced prejudice over something she couldn't control. Now Hermione is black and, well, it kind of muddies the dynamic...no pun intended.

It’s not new material. There was a ton from the books left out of the movies due to time constraints, particularly in the later books.

The casting looks great outside of Snape. That’s going to be hard to get over.

IIRC they said they were "expanding" stories about characters that weren't prevalent in the novels or movies. I could be wrong obviously but that was what my comment meant.

They’ve said they’re going to add new material especially surrounding Malfoy.

And, based on that trailer, it looks exactly like the movies.

Snape decision was BS but this looks great. Can’t wait to watch with my daughter

Wow the visuals look great. I dont think this show is "needed" but it could certainly be fun. It could potentially end up better than the movies with the added space offered by making it a series.

Cant believe they spoiled that Harry ends up in gryffindor

The Hermione in that trailer was black?

I did like the little nod in the trailer where Hermione said "Don't you two read?" implying that this will be for the book readers.

I'll watch it and probably enjoy it but I really wish we could have gotten a show about the marauders school days and then into the first wizarding war. That could have gone for a decade.

I agree, Papa looks like he's nailing the charachter.

A show can go into so much more detail that the movies couldn't especially after book 2.

Books 3-7 are roughly double the size.
