Doesn't really matter overall. She seems to fit the role fine. The Snape change is unforgiveable and changes the story and characters immensely and unnecessarily.

She’s multi-racial, but maybe she identifies as being black? The stage version of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child featured a black Hermoine, so I sort of expected them to cast a non-white actor in the role. I don’t know about the new cast being more age-appropriate though, considering that Emma Watson was only 10 years old in the first Harry Potter film. Arabella Stanton is 12.

She just turned 12 lol. And they’re currently filming Chamber of Secrets. Their ages SHOULD line up well with the pace they’re on but I wonder if they’ll take a break after Chamber or if they’ll take a short break after Prisoner. I’m sure they’ll slow down after Prisoner since they’ll want to examine the numbers on Stone and Chamber before ordering Goblet and the rest of the series.
Especially Goblet considering the sheer amount of $$$ they’ll need for the cast, which expands considerably, plus the visuals for the World Cup, 3 Tasks and Voldy’s return. They’re not letting them film that one if the numbers aren’t where they want them.
ETA: I think they’ll film Prisoner pretty close to Chamber then take 9-10 months off and film Goblet and Order pretty close. Take a break. Then film HBP and DH close.

Honestly, I think by the time we get to that point in the story where Snape’s real relationship with James is shown—Essiedu will *be* Snape in most people’s minds. That’s at least 4 years away.
Look I don’t like the casting either. But I haven’t seen a single thing (other than that) that indicates this will be anything other than incredibly well done. Everything they have released or announced has been pretty great, with a lot of emphasis on book material/details.
I trust HBO. If this were Disney I’d be more skeptical.

HBO, baw. It’ll be weekly I’m sure, they don’t usually dump full seasons. Perhaps/hopefully they release the first two episodes together so we get to Hogwarts and the sorting on Xmas day.

Yeah I think if they were to ever break the tradition they would for HP and drop episodes 1 and 2.
Episode 1 most certainly ends with Harry on the train or going to platform 9 3/4

Snape’s does. He’s partially bullied because of the way he looks.
Fwiw, I’m still incredibly excited. One casting decision I don’t love isn’t gonna prevent me from watching it. Hopefully it all works out great!
