I’m moderately okay with this as JKR said she intended for Hermoine to be black anyways. The success of this series will depend directly on the writing and casting. Seems they have started down a good path with the former and we’ll have to see how they handle the latter.

Tom Felton is cool as hell. I dont like how they wrote him in the movies. Draco seems more formidable in the books

Cursed Child is so out there that its basically fan fiction. People can separate the stories in their mind because Hermione was always a kid/teenager in their imagination when reading the story. If you try to race swap a character that people have been associating as either Emma Watson or a frizzy haired, white British girl, you are going to take people out of the story right off the bat.

Weve had a decade of this ridiculous pandering to black people. The vast majority of black folks I knew and grew up with are not nerds. They dont like fantasy, wizard stuff and scifi. Rowling probably pushed the black Hermione stuff...because Emma Watson pissed her off. If she had intended for Hermione to be black, it would have been on the artwork and would have been cast that way in the movies.

At some point, white folks are gonna stop pretending they dont care about the race swapping. Its not a matter of being racist, its a matter of primal human biology. People relate most with people that look like them and have similar cultures. The black folks that like Harry Potter are already outliers. There are well written black characters already in the story. It would be colossally dumb for HBO to race swap any main characters.

One argument youll hear is "well she was the best actress for the job and happened to be black"...does anybody really think theyd cast a white actor/actress as Angelina, Dean, Kingsley, Cho etc because they were "the best actor that auditioned"? 0% chance

Then why didn't she make her black from the beginning? See how this doesn't make sense? It's revisionist. Once she made her billions, only now she starts the pandering. No different then the Friends creator.

100% Hermoine will be black, also 95% Harry will be Asian/Indian

They’ll only make 1 of the 3 your standard Caucasian and my money is on it being Ron.

I actually think you’ll get a fair number of highly profile UK actors but I think they’ll be more attached to one off roles or roles where they can film their scenes in a couple of weeks like Rita Skeeter, Barty Crouch, Fudge, Lucius Malfoy, Mad Eye etc.
