In the book, Otto is still executed at this point, with Alicent present. The only difference is that she was there when he was alive and pleaded for mercy. Not much has really changed.
The rest of Alicent's story seems to be well in hand. She and Rhaenyra will antagonize each other until Rhaenyra is forced to flee the city. She'll get tossed around by different factions before going mad in captivity.

There is no girl boss energy here. (Not that I want GBE at all, but I would like to see a glimmer of the girl who killed the boar and sauntered into camp covered in blood.) While I appreciated a subtle callback to Viserys’ slow and painful walk to the throne, she didnt own it when she got there. Half dead, he was more regal and was ready to scrap if needed.
I think thats the point the show is trying to get across. Rhaenyra isnt actually able to do what is necessary to be a competent leader. She wants to be queen but doesn't want to do whats necessary to achieve it. In the book she is portrayed as ruthless but the show is telling us that reality and history books aren't exactly true.
Its like a kid that gets into his first fist fight. He's scared to death the whole time and only fights cuz he literally has to but when he retells the story to his friends he frames it as him bravely beating the shite out of some guy.
I also get you wanting her to be a confident leader but a confident leader doesn't get themselves in this clusterfrick of a situation to begin with.

I think this is true. The show is surprisingly not foisting a girl boss narrative on the viewer…yet.
Why she ended up this way is a fecund topic as well.

I do think that the takes on this episode are leaving out a pretty critical scene with regards to R and D. She’s overcome with grief and despondent. D alludes to the song of fire and ice and the importance of the prophecy as a way to get her motivated, appealing to her sense of duty. This is a pretty flattering portrayal of someone rising out of their personal issues to serve a bigger cause.

S3E3 AI overview.

Upon occupying the Red Keep, Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen quickly realizes that taking the throne was the easy part. With the city treasury plundered and massive supply shortages causing unrest, Rhaenyra must balance her moral compass with the harsh necessities of rule. Elsewhere, Daemon successfully forces a surrender from Lord Ormund Hightower in the Riverlands, but new threats and potential deceptions regarding Daeron Targaryen emerge

I appreciate that they’re slowly building her paranoia. And just how unprepared she is to hold the throne (and make the sacrifices to do so).
Curious how they’re going to play out these battles coming up.

Robbing and pillaging the nobles to provide for the poor. I’m sure all of Hollywood cheered for that moment.

1st thing she should have done is rewarded ulf, hugh, Adam and corlys. Whatever they wanted. Three dragons and all her ships hang in the balance

I could have sworn in the books she did, but Corlys turned on her anyway. Maybe they are simplifying their divide on the show.

Another retard episode. Daemon takes Daeron without checking who he is and leaves the fricking dragon behind lol. He takes a hostage to keep the Greens in line then tells Rhaeynra she has to kill him. I mean I could go on but the simps are gonna menstruate like Rhaeynra so whatever. Let’s get to The Gods Eye so I can quit watching this garbage.
