Alicent is the literal poster child for how to not raise kids in a monarchy. It’s no coincidence that the one that isn’t fricked up was sent to be raised elsewhere.

No, I don't think they've turned her into a girl boss or whatever, but she's certainly been softened up for the show. Also, feminist sky screaming reviewer Grace Randolph, who has been given the first 4 episodes and does not like what they've done with Rhaenyra, has said she loves what they did with her in E4. Not a good sign, especially given the fact that the writer of the episode is the same woman who wrote Supergirl.

My only caveat to this is the show is based on a Maester’s retelling with the sprinkling of a biased Septon and a court jester. So that leaves for a lot of interpretation of demeanor when you move from the 50,000 foot view to the ground level of the show.

My impression is the real one is the squire given info out there about casting and I think the show is going to make play on the rumors from the book that it’s not really him that dies later (inspiring a ton of imposters).

I don't think she can be a girl boss while also not be respected by everyone because she is a woman. They haven't portrayed her as some kind of genius, she is a lost soul that wants to be queen but has no idea what she is doing. The people around her sense that and take matters into their own hands because they don't trust her and it causes all kinds of frickery.
The greens are doing the same thing but its because Aegon is a burnt up frick boy.

I don’t see how anyone can watch Rhaenyra crying and snotting her way through the execution, having to get her hands dirty for the first time, and think “girl boss”
I think they did it a great job of illustrating that she’s in way over her head. The one thing she thinks she’s owed and she didn’t do it with a level of convincing ownership. She even looked uncomfortable sitting on the throne.

He's also acting like it doesn't follow the source material. Hollywood didn't make this shite up, GRRM did. If anything the message is that when women are in charge, everything goes to shite.

If there is any theme to the world GRRM created, it’s that when women get power, they are just as ruthless, corruptible, and bad leaders as the men.

My take is the fairy tail that every little girl wants to be a princess when she grows up isn't all that they were promised.
She seems shocked that her ascension was covered in blood of those closest to her, almost like she's never paid attention to history.
FWIW, this show is a fantastic case of why nepotism can be devastating

She took Daemon’s (Dark Sister) and that’s what she beheaded Otto with.
The sword Rhaenyra had was an unnamed, Roman length, ancient sword she had selected in S2 from the armory at Dragonstone.

I just rewatched and realize what I did not like the first go-round…and its basically this^^^.
There is no girl boss energy here. (Not that I want GBE at all, but I would like to see a glimmer of the girl who killed the boar and sauntered into camp covered in blood.) While I appreciated a subtle callback to Viserys’ slow and painful walk to the throne, she didnt own it when she got there. Half dead, he was more regal and was ready to scrap if needed.
Daemon is making everything possible and essentially giving her permission at every turn here. Which is fine with me…I am fully Team Daemon. For now.
I know she’s grieving and all, and Otto is a major figure from her youth, but this is why youre there…look like you deserve it.
And Alicent needs to calm down. She already conceded to R that she knows killing Aegon was necessary. This is the dynamic she chose and she had to know heads will roll. Literally. Eventually.
I am hoping the expression on R’s face at the end was some stiffening of the sinew.
One of the best episodes, imo.
