anyone else surprised they dropped bran and rickon being alive so fast. I thought it would have been better to not know until the end of the season with them leaving an abandoned winterfell.

something i'm not seeing discussed in here is Varys talk with Tyrion overlooking the water...when Tyrion said he didn't want to leave the game why did Varys mention Daenarys? are they setting up that storyline early too?

I've got no idea where they are going with it. I guess Arya will get her coin outside of Harrenhal. No idea if they're gonna kill maester Luwin. I doubt they mess up Tyrions face. I'm also curious if they are going to stop the battle scene when tyrion gets knocked out like they did in the book.

I'm trying to remember how far out of Harenhall Arya and Gendry got. I think Jaquen can still pop up to give her the coin. Though I'm not sure they established well why she brought Hotpie along. Gendry I can see cause their is still danger if his secret is discovered. Hotpie seems safer in the castle riuins.

The Talisa character is played by Oona Chaplin, granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin. Though her scene was boring and long, damn she was hot.

One of the preview blurbs from the last episode mentions him giving Arya a gift or something, so we should still see that.

I separated the show from the books. I'm not complaining about those changes as to why the episode was disappointing. I don't have much time to type all my thoughts out but the Rob/Talissa scene was just all kinds of awful, even the Tyrion/Shae interaction was very poorly done. "You're beautiful, be mine...please be mine." (Awkward Hug/Kiss) Neither were well done at all. Also while we are talking of subpar two person scenes, the Jorah/Daenerys scene could be included in there as well. Bad dialouge, bad acting, no chemistry, no urgency, and wholly unnecessary. We knew everything in that scene already. It wasn't needed. Finally Joeffry had some pathetic line about a red smile that was not only bad dialogue but was delivered poorly. He is portraying Joeffrey in an over the top manner, the way he walks the way he talks...He's some cheesy villian douche and it didn't work. They had many chances in the episode to provide more action or tension and they didn't.

I love the show, it is still some of the best television out there. Yes the second season has been underwhelming but it still has been great. I'm not going on a bitch fest, but that episode was extremely disappointing to say the least. There were countless ways they could have made it better or prevented it from being worse.

The Mountain is now in charge, its basically the same as putting Vargo in charge. No one is safe under him. Hotpie is part of the trio cant leave him behind.

What I Didn’t Like

A slow burn – This episode was all about getting the pieces into place for the final two episodes. While I enjoyed it, not all that much happened. I think an episode like this shouldn’t be happening this late in the season. I imagine there were a few new viewers that kept waiting for the shite to hit the fan and it never did. Of course, we know that next week is the BIG episode, but I think the writer’s could have paced things a little better to try and get a little more action into this episode.

Cersei’s power play – While I enjoyed this scene (and other than Ros replacing Alayaya, it was ripped pretty much straight from the book) did anyone else think that the show version of Cersei is a bit contradictory? Just last week, she was lamenting how Joffrey is insane and uncontrollable and saying he is the “price for our sins”. Now she is all about protecting him at all costs, even going so far as to capture and beat the whore that she assumes her brother loves. In the book, Joffrey wasn’t nearly as cruel and Cersei supports him 100%, so this move made sense, but in the show, Joffrey is a complete despot while Cersei has been shown to doubt his sanity. This is the problem with making small changes in the story and characters; you lose consistency when you go back to the book for a later scene and the characters act in a way that seems incongruous with how they’ve been presented in the show so far.

Robb’s romance – As I was watching Talisa tell her story and seeing Robb’s reaction, I was thinking to myself, “Please don’t have sex, please don’t have sex.” I know that we have a ton of storylines to get to each week and so they can’t spend a lot of time building this up, but man, I really wish they would have had them sleep together next week, or even two weeks from now. We didn’t really get a sense that Robb was struggling with betraying his honor at all. The second they are alone together and sharing an intimate moment, the clothes are off. I think if they had ended their final scene tonight with the beginnings of a kiss, only to have Robb break if off, clearly wanting her but struggling to keep his word, it really would have sold this tragic love story. Then in a week or two, after some more time spent with these two and after the audience clearly understands that Robb is trying to stand strong but is obviously head over heels for this girl, then Robb can finally give in to his urges.

Good points.

You don't need to say stuff like this IMO. I'm not trying to be a jerk and it isn't a spoiler per se, but I think you should avoid hints such as these.

quote:

Things like this almost always have implications later on in Martin's storylines. Very small things, like the introduction of one character to another or the betrayal to this character/that character who may not seem like a "main" part of the storyline tends to have the ripple effect.

And there's this from Boudin:

[quote]You know nothing, glassman[/quote

He says this after glass suggest that the Freys won't care much and nothing will come of it.

Come on guys, don't do this.

I agree.

I am still fascinated by Tywin Lannister. I absolutely despised him in the books but I actually like him in the show.

This, great character. The difference of course is we are now seeing him with our own eyes and not through the POV of others. Could also just be a good actor.

In the books, doesn't Catelyn get word of Bran and Rickon's purported deaths, which causes the grief-stricken act of releasing Jaime in order to save her daughters?
In the show, she just said they were being held by Theon, which is all she knew at that time.

While Tywin was not sympathetic in the books, I never found him to be needlessly cruel. He was a ruthless lord in an era and kingdom where that was a very valuable trait. heck, same can be said for many of the well known leaders throughout Europe during the middle ages. The one person he was most cruel to was probably Tyrion. And of course he paid for that.

I would almost have preferred they do this like they did in the books. They could show him meeting her(when they cut off that dude's foot) then just have him show up married. I understand they want him on screen, but the shock of reading that he was married immediately brought up the problem of his little betrothal.

So what's this weasel soup y'all are talking about? I take it in the books arya killed a few people where as in the show jaquen is doing all the killing?

I didn't read the books but I know what happens with the Freys. Should be an epic thread when that episode airs. About like the last episode of the first season.
